ARTICLES

Definite and indefinite articles are used to specify whether we are

referring to a particular noun (definite) or any noun of a general type

(indefinite).

Definite Article ("the"):

● Used when referring to a specific noun that is known to the

listener or is defined within the context.
● Example: "Can you pass me the book?" (Here, "the"
indicates a specific book that the speaker and listener
both know about.)

Indefinite Articles ("a" and "an"):

Used when referring to a non-specific noun, indicating any one

of a type.

1. "A" is used before words that begin with consonant sounds.

2. An" is used before words that begin with vowel sounds.

3. Example 1: "I'd like to buy a car." (Here, "a" is used because the
speaker is referring to any car, not a specific one.)
4. Example 2: "She found an interesting article." (Here, "an" is
used because "article" begins with a vowel sound.)

These examples demonstrate how definite and indefinite articles are

used to specify whether we are talking about something specific or

something nonspecific within a sentence.
