Section – A
1. The revenue function is given by R(x) = 100x – x2 – x3. Find the demand 2
function.
OR
The average cost function associated with producing and marketing x units by
AC = 2x – 11 + 50/x. Find the total cost function and the marginal cost
function.
2. Find the present value of a sequence of ₹1000 made at the end of every 6 2
months and continuing forever, if money is worth 8% per annum compounded
semi-annually.
3. Find the effective rate which is equivalent to a stated rate of 6% compounded 2
semi-annually.
OR
Find the present value of an annuity of ₹1000 payable at the end of each year
for 5 years if money is worth 6%compounded annually.
[Given (1.06)−5 = 0.7473]
4. A sampling distribution of the sample means X is formed from a population 2
with mean weight  = 60 kg and standard deviation  = 9 kg. What is the
expected value and standard deviation of X , if sample size is 36?
5. Obtain the three year moving averages for the following series of observations: 2
Year 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002
Annual Sales
3.6 4.3 4.3 3.4 4.4 5.4 3.4 2.4
(in 0000 ₹)
6. Maximize and minimize Z = 5x + 10y subject to the constraints 2
x + 2y ≤ 120, x + y  60, x – y  0, x  0, y  0.

Section – B
7. The demand function for a commodity is p = 35 – 2x – x2. Find the consumer’s 3
surplus at equilibrium price p0 = 20.
8. The table below gives details of the electricity generated in million kilowatt 3
hours in each quarter for the years 2002 to 2004.
Quarter
Year
1st 2nd 3rd 4th
2002 8 7 6 9
2003 10 7 7 10
2004 11 7 8 10
Calculate the four-quarterly moving averages.
9. A machine produces washers of thickness 0.50 mm. To determine whether the 3
machine is in proper working order, a sample of 10 washers is chosen for
which the mean thickness is 0.53mm and the standard deviation is 0.03 mm.
Test the hypothesis at 5% level of significance that the machine is working in
proper order. [Given critical value, 𝑡0.025 = 2.262 at v(d.f) = 9 ]
10. Vikas invested ₹10000 in a stock of a company for 6 years. The value of his 3
investment at the end of each year is given below:
Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6
₹11000 ₹11500 ₹13000 ₹11800 ₹12200 ₹14000
Calculate CAGR of his investment. [log(1.4)=0.1461; antilog(0.0244)= 1.058]
Section – C
11. A manufacturer has employed 5 skilled men and 10 semi-skilled men and 4
makes two models A and B of an article. The making of one item of model A
requires 2 hours work by a skilled man and 2 hours work by a semi-skilled
man. One item of model B requires 1 hour by a skilled man and 3 hours by a
semi-skilled num. No man is expected to work more than 8 hours per day. The
manufacturer's profit on item of model A is ₹15 and on an item of model B is
₹10. How many items of each model should be made per day in order to
maximize daily profit? Formulate the above LPP and solve it graphically and
find the maximum profit.
12. A machine costing ₹200000 has effective life of 7 years and its scrap value is 4
₹30000. What amount should the company put into a sinking fund earning 5%
per annum, so that it can replace the machine after its useful life? Assume that
a new machine will cost ₹300000 after 7 years. [(1.05)7 = 1.407]
13. A loan of ₹250000 at the interest rate of 6% p.a. compounded monthly is to be 4
amortized by equal payments at the end of each month for 5 years, find the
size of each monthly payment.
OR
A bond that matures in 5 years has coupon rate of 10% per annum and has a
face value of ₹10000. Find the fair value of bond if the yield to maturity is 8%.
14. CASE STUDY
A Veterinary doctor was examining a sick cat brought by a pet lover. When it was
brought to the hospital, it was already dead. The pet lover wanted to find its time of
death. He took the temperature of the cat at 11.30 pm which was 94.6°F. He took the
temperature again after one hour; the temperature was lower than the first observation.
It was 93.4°F. The room in which the cat was put is always at 70°F. The normal
temperature of the cat is taken as 98.6°F when it was alive. The doctor estimated the
time of death using Newton law of cooling which is governed by the differential
dT
equation: α(T  20), where 70°F is the room temperature and T is the temperature of
dt
the object at time t.
On the basis of above information, answer the following questions.
dT 2
(i) Find the solution of the differential equation  k(T  70).
dt
(ii) What is the value of constant, for solution of above differential equation, if 2
t = 0 when T = 72?
