EEE3408 Circuit Theory_ lecture 4

The document discusses the Maximum Power Transfer Theorem, which states that maximum power is transferred to a load when its resistance equals the internal resistance of the source. It provides formulas for calculating power transfer and includes an example circuit to illustrate the concept. Reference materials for further reading are also mentioned.

Maximum Power Transfer Theorem
Consider a variable resistor connected across a source with
e.m.f. E and internal resistance r.

Maximum Power Transfer Theorem
Power transfer to load, P = I2R

This power is a maximum when the denominator is a minimum. It can be
shown that the denominator is a minimum when R = r.

Maximum Power Transfer Theorem
Hence, the power transferred from a source to the load is a
maximum when the resistance of the load is equal to the internal
resistance of the source.
