2monthly Test Paper Class 12 (April)
2. Calculate the molarity of the following solution: 30 mL of 0.5 M H2SO4 diluted to 500 mL.
4. The vapour pressure of pure liquids A and B are 450 and 700 mm Hg respectivelyat 350 K . Find
out the composition of the Vapour phase, if total vapour pressure is 600 mm Hg ?
A. 0.4, 0.6 B. 0.3, 0.7 C. 0.5 ,0.5 D. 0.2 ,0.8
5. A solution is obtained by mixing 300 g of 25% solution and 400 g of 40% solution by mass.
Calculate the mass percentage of the resulting solution?
6. Which of the following aqueous solutions should have the highest boiling point?
(A) 1.0 M NaOH (B) 1.0 M Na2SO4 (C) 1.0 M NH4NO3 (D) 1.0 M KNO3
7. Assertion (A): The boiling point of 0.1M urea solution is less than that of 0.1M KCl solution.
Reason(R) : Elevation in boiling point is directly proportional to number of solute particles in the
solution.
8. Assertion : Azeotropic mixtures are formed only by non-ideal solutions and they may have
boiling points either greater than both the components or less than both the components.
Reason: The composition of the vapour phase is same as that of the liquid phase of an azeotropic
mixture.
SECTION-B (3x2=6M)
9. A) Why do gases always tend to be less soluble in liquids as the temperature is raised?
B) Gas(A) is more soluble in water than Gas(B) at the same temperature. Which one of the two
gases will have the higher value of KH and why?
10. The partial pressure of ethane over a solution containing 6.56 × 10 -3 g of ethane is 1 bar.
If the solution contains 5.00 × 10-2 g of ethane, then what shall be the partial pressure of the
gas? (2M)
11. How does sprinkling of salt help in clearing the snow-covered roads in hilly areas?
Explain the phenomenon involved in the process.
SECTION – C (4X3=12M)
12. A) State Raoults law of non-volatile solute in a liquid?
B) The vapour pressure of pure benzene at a certain temperature is 0.850 bar. A non-
volatile, non-electrolyte solid weighing 0.5 g when added to 39.0 g of benzene (molar mass
78 g mol-1). Vapour pressure of the solution, then, is 0.845 bar. What is the molar mass of
the solid substance?
13. A) Define the following terms: (i) Elevation in boiling point (ii) Depression in freezing point. (1M)
B) Will the elevation in boiling point be same if 0.1 mole of sodium chloride or 0.1 mole of cane
sugar is dissolved in 1L of water? Explain. (2M)
14. A) On mixing liquids X and Y , Volume of the resulting solution decreases. What type of
deviation from Raoults law is shown by the resulting solution? What change in temperature
would you observe after mixing liquids X and Y?
B) What is maximum bp and minimum bp azeotropes? Give examples.
15. What is Osmotic pressure? At 300 K, 36 g of glucose present in a litre of its solution has an
osmotic pressure of 4.98 bar. If the osmotic pressure of the solution is 1.52 bars at the same
temperature, what would be its concentration? (3M)
SECTION – D (1x4=4M)
16. The osmotic pressure associated with the fluid inside the blood cell is equivalent to that of 0.9%
(mass/volume) sodium chloride solution, called normal saline solution and it is safe to inject
intravenously. On the other hand, if we place the cells in a solution containing more than 0.9%
(mass/ volume) sodium chloride is called hypertonic. If the salt concentration is less than 0.9%
(mass/volume), the solution is said to be hypotonic.
B) 200 cm3 of an aqueous solution of a protein contains 1.26 g of the protein. The osmotic pressure
of such a solution at 300 K is found to be 2.57 × 10-3 bar. Calculate the molar mass of the protein.
