Ratio_Method_Time_Distance_SSC_Practice_20_Questions

The document provides practice problems on time and distance using the ratio method, including scenarios involving speed increases and time reductions. It includes calculations for various situations such as a person's commute time, train travel, and a man's walking speed. The solutions illustrate how to derive time and distance based on speed ratios.

Time and Distance - Ratio Method (SSC CGL Practice)

1. If a person increases his speed in the ratio 4:5, he takes 10 minutes less to reach office.

Find the actual time taken at slower speed.

Speed ratio = 4:5 => Time ratio = 5:4

1 unit = 10 minutes => 5 units = 50 minutes

Answer: 50 minutes

2. A train covers a distance in 2 hours with a speed of 60 km/h. What would be the time taken

if the speed is increased in the ratio 3:4?

Speed ratio = 3:4 => Time ratio = 4:3

New time = (3/4) * 2 = 1.5 hours or 1 hour 30 minutes

3. A man walks at a speed of 4 km/h and is late by 10 minutes. If he walks at 5 km/h, he

reaches 5 minutes early. Find the distance.

Speed ratio = 4:5 => Time ratio = 5:4

Total time difference = 15 min = 1/4 hr

1 unit = 1/4 hr => 5 units = 1 hr

Distance = 4 × 1 = 4 km

4. Two trains are moving in opposite directions at speeds in ratio 3:2. If the faster train

crosses the slower in 12 seconds, how long will the slower train take to cross the faster?

Speed ratio = 3:2 => Time ratio = 2:3

If faster takes 12s => Slower takes = 12 × (3/2) = 18 seconds

5. A car travels 540 km. If the speed is increased by 20%, it takes 1 hour less. Find the

original speed.

Speed ratio = 5:6 => Time ratio = 6:5

1 unit = 1 hr => 6 units = 6 hr

Speed = 540 / 6 = 90 km/h
