CHRISTIANA
GREETINGS
Upon entering the house, the priest greets those present and offers them his sympathy and consolation of faith,
using words from the scripture, for example: Praise be to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies, and the God of all consolations! He comforts those who are in trouble, with the same consolation we
have received from him (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
PSALMS
Then the minister may say,"The Lord is my Shepherd"
Response: Lord, remember her in your kingdom.
Priest: Lord, hear our prayers and be merciful to your daughter CHRISTIANA ADOGHE, whom you have
called from this life. Welcome her into the company of saints, in the kingdom of light and peace. We ask this
through Christ
our Lord.
Response: Amen.
The following prayer or another suitable prayer for the mourners may be said after or even before the above
prayer for the deceased:
LET US PRAY
Priest: Father, God of all consolations, in your unending love and mercy for us, you turn the darkness of death in
the dawn of new life. Show compassion to your people in their sorrow. Be our refuge and our strength, to lift us
from darkness of this grief to the peace and light of your presence. Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by dying for
us, conquered death and by his rising again, restored life. May we then go forward eagerly to meet him, and after
our life on earth be recruited with our brothers and sisters where every tear will be wiped away. We ask this
through Christ our Lord.
Response: Amen.
LET US PRAY
Lord, we humbly ask your mercy. Accept the soul of your servant CHRISTIANA ADOGHE, forgive the sins
she committed through human frailty. Free her from the bonds of death and admit her into everlasting life,
through Christ Our
Lord, Amen.

in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my most grievous
fault; therefore I ask Blessed Mary ever Virgin, all the angels and saints, and to you my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the lord our God, Amen.
C/. May the Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.
All/. Amen.
THE KYRIE
Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy
Christ, have mercy Christ, have mercy
Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy
I , Daniel, was doing penance when I received this message from the Lord: At that time Michael will stand
up, the great prince who mounts guard over your people. There is going to be a time of great distress,
unparalleled since nations first came into existence. When that time comes, your own people will be
spared, all those whose names are found written in the book. Of those who lie sleeping in the dust of the earth
many will awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting disgrace. The learned will shine
brightly as the vault of heaven, and those who have instructed many in virtues, as bright as stars for all eternity'.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalms 62:2-6.8-9.R/v.2
R/. For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God
SECOND READING
A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians 4:13-18
We shall stay with the Lord forever.
W e want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have died, to make sure that you do not
grieve about them, like the other people who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose
again, and that it will be the same for those who have died in Jesus: God will bring them with him. We
can tell you this from the Lord's own teaching, that any of us who are left alive until the Lord's coming will not
have any advantage over those who have died. At the trumpet of God, the voice of the archangel will call out the
command and the Lord himself will come down from heaven; those who have died in Christ will be the first to
rise, and then those of us who are still alive will be taken up in the clouds, together with them, to meet the Lord in
the air. So we shall stay with the Lord forever. With such thoughts as these you should comfort one another.
Come, you whom the father has blessed, says the Lord; inherit the kingdom prepared for you since the
foundation of the world..
GOSPEL
A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew 25:31-46
Come, you whom my father has blessed.
J esus said to his disciples; “when the son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit
upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one
from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the
goats on His left. Then the king will say to those on His right hand come, you who are blessed by my father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill or in
prison, and you visited me. Then the upright will say to Him in reply, Lord when did we see you hungry and feed
you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and
clothe you? When did we find you ill or in prison and go to see you? And the king will say to them in
reply,"Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did from me." “Then he
will say to those on his left,”depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his
angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you
gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me. "Then
they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison,
and not minister to your needs? He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did not do for one of
these brothers of mine, you did not do for me. And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to
eternal life.’
1. For our sister, Mrs. Christiana Adoghe, that she may share the light of Christ"s resurrection and come into
new life of happiness and peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. For those suffering on account of bereavement, that the generosity of their fellow Christians may give them
new comfort and help them to relieve their anxiety. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. For the Nations and peoples of the world, that God will destroy the hate that divides them and bring them
together in justice and peace: Let us pray to the Lord.
4. For all who are gathered here to pray for Mrs. Christiana Adoghe, that we may always live, act and speak in
full realization that one day we shall be called upon to answer for our thoughts, words and actions. Let us pray
to the Lord.
6. For the sick, the recovering, and the dying, that the compassion of Jesus may be present to them in our prayers
and care for them; Let us pray to the Lord.
LET US PRAY
O Lord, may these humble petitions find favour in your presence for the salvation of Mrs. Christiana Adoghe
your servant, and all who have died in Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

BE STILL MY SOUL
Be still, my soul, the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief of pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change His faithful will remain
Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heavenly friend,
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul, thy God doth under take
To guide the future as he has the past;
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
Be still, my soul, the hair is hastening on;
When we shall be forever with the Lord;
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone;
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
COMMUNION ANTIPHON
I am the Resurrection and Life, says the Lord, if anyone believes in me, even though he dies, he will live,
anyone who lives and believes in me, will never die.
(cf, Jn.11:25-26)
(The coffin will now besprinkled with Holy Water and incensed)
