1. Define the following terms:

4. Differentiate between accuracy and precision. (4 mks)
5. County Surveyor of West Pokot County was working in the field doing angular-linear measurements
concurrently. Name 4 tools he was using. (4mks)
6. DeKUT University land survey students were preparing to go for a Cadastral survey in Karatina town.
They were instructed by the Surveyor in-charge to prepare.
i. Define reconnaissance
ii. Name one instruments they were to use.
iii. Highlight two objectives of reconnaissance. (4 mks)
7. A line was measured by a 20 m chain which was accurate before starting the day’s work. After
chaining 900 m, the chain was found to be 6 cm too long. After chaining a total 1,575 m, the chain was
found to be 14 cm too long. Find the true distance of the line. (5mks)
8. A chain line PQ interests a lake. Two points A and B are taken on the chain line on opposite side of the
pond. A line AC, 250 m long, is set out on the left of AB and another line AD, 300 m long, is set out on
the right of AB. Points C, B and D are in the same straight line CB and BD are 100 and 150 m long
respectively. Calculate length of AB. (4mks)
9. Interns at the ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development- Ardhi house were asked by their
supervisor to identify some of the scales. Name four types of scales.
10. Mention the procedure of use of a compass. (5mks)
11. During a Cadastral survey at University of Nairobi, the survey students were to select a good survey
stations before starting their work. Highlight three points to be remembered during selection of survey
stations. (3mks)
12. Mention how a station marked on the ground. (2mks)
13. Name types of compass used by Geospatial engineers during their research at forest in Burnt forest in
Kericho County. (2mks)

14. It is always echoed by geospatial engineers that levelling is one of the pillars of plane survey.

ii. Name three types of levelling operations used by contractors in Kenya (3mks)
iii. The following successive readings readings were taken with a dumpy level along a chain line at
common intervals of 20 m. The first reading was taken on a chainage 140 m. The RL of the
second point was 107.215 m. The instrument was shifted after the third and seventh readings.
Calculate the RLs, of all the points.
