V. Instruction

(About instruction you can refer to "protection relay calibration", compiled by Water Resources

and Electric Power department Electric Power Production Division, published by China Water

Power Press.)
(1) Measurement
Can be used as voltage and current source respectively, in order to avoid the equipment

damage please pay more attention to all output power. Specific operations refer to section 4.
(2) Over range and Under range
Measuring the start value, the return value, return coefficient and contact action time of relays

(including voltage relay and current relay). Over range relay is defined by the action value of

the contact close. Under range relay is defined by the action value of the contact open.

Measuring the action value, the return value, and return coefficient of relays

Reference sections 4, turn T3 to , press the sync switch, and slowly adjust T4 to the relay

action, then the LED becomes ON, X1 displays this action value. Continue to adjust T4 to the

rated value, and then slowly back to the return value, at this time the LED turns OFF, X1 displays

this return value. Return coefficient = (the return value/the action value) %

Relay time measurement

Reference sections 4, turn T3 to the relay contact, press the sync switch, and slowly adjust T4 to

the rated value, through the sync switch, relay time can be measured. Note: before test, the

milliseconds should be cleared to zero and closing switch should be in OPEN condition.

8
Relationship between sync switch and contact is as follows:

In Ⅰ Ⅲ condition, sync switch from turn off to turn on;

In Ⅱ Ⅳ condition, sync switch from turn on to turn off.

Contacts are wired as follows:

(3) The measurement of time relays the same as above.

(4) Reclosing (take DH-3 reclosing for example)

1) DH-3 reclosing relay operation as follows: Wired as Fig.3,③ ④connected to black

J5(Negative electrode), ⒄connected red J5(positive electrode).

Note: when using contact ZJ3 to halt the milliseconds, disconnect

the cable form contact ZJ3 to ⑿( see "protection relay calibration" page 352), adjust T1 to

DC20A, turn the power supply ON, and turn T4 to relay rated current value. Turn OFF the

power supply, and turn T2 to relay rated voltage value. Adjust T3 to I( Relay ZJ3 is in contact

condition). Turn the power supply ON, press the fixed output switch, change for 15 to 25

seconds (the charge time will show in millisecond meter), reset the millisecond meter, press the

"reclosing switch", measuring reclosing time, then the value displayed in X2 is reclosing time

of reclosing relay.

9
(5) Auxiliary Relay

See Fig.(a), the operation method same as the operating of over range/ under range relay

measuring action values, return values, action time, and return time.

See Fig.(b), for current holding relay, adjust T2 to the relay rated voltage, turn on power switch,

press the fixed value switch, and add the rated voltage to the relay voltage coil, after relay

action, adjust T4 to enable J1 to reach the rated current. Then disconnect the voltage, adjust

the protection coil current (T4), the minimum current that relay holds is the minimum hold of

relay. For testing action time and return time refer to section 5, term 2.

(6) Differential Relay (take BCH—1 differential relay for example)

As required in the regulations (see "protection relay test" page 178),

in the case of no external devices, just can do trials at NO. ④⑨⑩,

in external connecting regulator and current booster condition, just can do trials at NO. ⑥,

other trials do not belong to the scope of the instrument.

1) Check the action voltage, action current and return current of actuator elements, wiring as
flows:

Disconnect the serial gram between terminal ⑩ and ⑾, measure the action current and

return current as the current relay operating method, then rise the AC current to just measured

action current value, record this voltage value, and the voltage between terminal

J1 can get by the millimeter.

10
2) Initial ampere-turn check in no braking condition

This project is not included in routine examination. Put all the 20 working winding turns into

service, connect ⑩ ⑾ short-circuit chips, add AC current from terminal ③ ⑧, and join the

contact action signal to the contact terminal from ⑤ ⑦, verify as the current relay testing

method.

3) Brake Performance Test

Periodic inspection, only test the action ampere-turn value when Φ = 0 ° and the braking is 280

ampere-turn.

Wiring as above. Disconnect the serial grams of ④ ⑥, adjust the action loop to 39 turns and

the brake circuit to 14 turns, make sure 220V power supply apply to the voltage regulator

(minimum capacity 5KVA) and the equipment, and adjust the brake current to the required

ampere-turns, refer to the AC relay to operate the action current. If action ampere-turns are

completely wrong, it is possible the phase angle between the braking current and action

current is 180 °, reversing the braking current phase, all will be ok. If the equipment using one

phase of the three phase current, voltage regulator using another phase current, changing

their phase position in three phase current and the positive and negative of will get 60 ° phase

angle. If using external phase shifters, 0 ~ 360 ° phase angle is available.

4) The entire group Volt-ampere Performance test, wiring as flows:

AC current add to the working winding ③ ⑧, actuator elements voltage can be read out by

an multi meter from ⑨ ⑩. Adjusting J1 to AC current and boost current to 1 times, 2 times, 5
11
times ampere-turn, actuator elements voltage can be read out. See "protection relay test"

page183 for details.

5) Verify action ampere-turns in setting position

The test method same as current relay operation, see section 5, term 2.

VI. Notes

(1) For security, do not turn on the power switch when the equipment and the relay are

wiring. Make sure the wire is properly connected; you can turn on the power switch.

(2) For better accuracy, please warm-up the equipment for 5 to 10 minutes before test.

(3) When measuring contact action time, the millisecond should be cleared to zero after

adding the rated value.

(4) For any reason the Equipment fails to operate properly, please check each fuse holder. If

damaged, it is recommended to replace the same model units. It still cannot operate

properly, please contact with our company timely instead repair it by yourself.

(5) The output power supply cannot short-circuit with each other. The connection between

contact terminals and the output power cannot be in short-circuiting condition. All that

will damage the equipment.

(6) Please read the instruction manual carefully before using the equipment.
