INTRODUCTION

COVID-19 Pandemic has had a tremendous impact on several education

sectors, including primary, secondary, and higher education. It ordered Malaysia's

government to carry out the Movement Control Order (MCO), which had been

extended by nearly a year till December 2021. The shutdown affects primary,

secondary, and pre-university education and all public and private universities and

skill training institutes across the country. Fortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has

awakened many people's eyes and minds, including teachers and students.

Teachers have begun to investigate various online learning mediums to

supplement their classroom instruction (Nagpal, 2020). With the introduction of many

educational technologies today, teaching and learning no longer have to occur

face-to-face, which is especially important in today's challenging environment.

Teachers need to acquire 21st-century skills. Students must be encouraged to create

new ideas, evaluate and analyze the material presented, and apply that knowledge to

their previous academic experiences. This is achieved by changing the methods of

instruction. If teachers consider their students’ skills and facilitate learning, students

will reach their most significant potential.

As a result, various e-learning tools, blended learning models, and techniques

are being incorporated officially into the system of educational institutions at various

levels. With the rapid increase of technology over the last 20+ years, the way

students learn and teachers teach has changed. Luckily, today a wealth of online

tools can supplement teachers' ability to bring new information to students while

providing students with many different options for learning input and output. Teachers

can teach more effectively, and their students may enjoy learning more using a

variety of tools.
DIGITAL TOOL 1 (KAHOOT!)

The first tool I would recommend is Kahoot! Kahoot! is a free online game that

is simple for teachers to learn and easy for students to use. The classroom is

fast-paced and enjoyable, encouraging creative energy and student interaction. A

game will teach students more than other methods of instruction. According to Boller

(2012), games are one of the practical learning techniques that students can utilize to

increase engagement

Kahoot! allows teachers to create questions with answers and students can

compete for points. The game can be activated on the web and several classes can

play against each other. Teachers need to launch classroom games by going to

https://create.kahoot.it, registering, picking a game, and clicking "play" to open the

game. A game pin appears at the top of the screen.

Kahoot is essentially used to review the knowledge of students for formative

evaluation or as a break from traditional tasks in the classroom. This online tool was

created to enhance social learning since students gather around a common screen

such as an interactive whiteboard, projector, or computer monitor (Salvador

Montaner, 2016).

Kahoot! offers many advantages in the classroom because of its flexibility.

Kahoot! can be used in different subjects, even in physical education, it can be used.

Because it focuses on social learning and makes it fun, it is a great way to keep up

with students involved. It is also simple to use because it works on any device and an

account doesn't have to be created by players. Most significantly, teachers and

students can use it free of charge. Kahoot! is capable of strengthening class content

or keeping your students involved.

Kahoot makes students more focused, in learning sessions as more attention

will be given during the lesson (Ismail & Mohammad, 2017). Sherlock, Jade, Helen &

Ben (2017) expressed the same opinion, i.e. students become more focused during

learning sessions to be prepared to respond. Students become more focused during

learning sessions to be ready to answer questions quickly and correctly when the

Kahoot session is conducted.

In addition, the visual and musical elements are also additional elements in

making students more careful in answering questions because their speed and

accuracy are required to answer Kahoot's question (Premanand, 2014). Whitton

(2011) states that Kahoot makes learning not boring especially when Kahoot is

conducted in the middle learning takes place. Boredom can be overcome through

Kahoot activities. This fun activity indirectly provides space for students to recall what

they have learned and re-energize to connect and return to the next learning session

(Sherlock, Jade, Helen & Ben, 2017).

From the description of the tool above, it can be seen Kahoot! gives students

of a younger generation a new platform to play with and discover their own identities.

This is consistent with Albert Bandura's Social cognitive theory (SCT). An individual's

knowledge acquisition is directly tied to seeing others in social interaction scenarios,

experiences, and through the media.

As a result, students can learn by interacting with one another while playing

Kahoot! Bandura also believes that students have a sense of "self-efficacy," which is

based on one's competency and ability to achieve, particularly in social situations.

Kahoot! Allows students to compete against one another for a spot on the

leaderboard at the end of the game. This will indirectly boost the students' learning

ability and knowledge while also reinforcing the taught topic.

DIGITAL TOOL 2 (CANVA)

The next tool is Canva. Canva was developed in 2012 as a streamlined visual

creation tool. It employs a drag-and-drop interface and provides access to photos,

vector images, graphics, and fonts. The tools can be used for online design and print

media graphics.

Canva is a free graphic design tool that allows users to create

professional-looking graphics with an easy-to-use interface. The tool provides

templates for social media platforms, websites, and print distribution in a

drag-and-drop format. Users can also access over a million images, graphics,

typefaces, and design components through Canva.

Users can utilize their imagination to create professional-quality messaging by

mixing these elements within the software. The designs can then be shared via the

internet, social media, and print media. Users can access Canva via a free mobile

app in addition to the online interface. Canva can be used in the classroom to get

students' creative juices flowing and allow them to create professional-looking

graphics with little to no prior knowledge of the platform.

Canva could be used in the classroom in a variety of ways to foster creativity,

reinforce essential concepts, break down and synthesize complex ideas, and spice

up presentations. Instructors could use exercise ideas to improve students' creativity

because it is so simple to understand and utilize. Educators could also ask students

to examine the content and artistically portray what they've learned to reinforce

critical themes. Students could also be required to translate complex topics into

simple pictures.
Thus, Canva is an excellent tool for students. According to Yuyun (2018),

student-centered teaching-learning activities can be used to increase students'

comprehension and explore their creativity by integrating it with the installation of the

online application Canva. Canva is software that simplifies graphic design. Canva is

an all-in-one design application that enables the creation and editing of eye-catching

visuals.

This application is ideal for improving writing skills. Among the previous

research papers on this topic, Thohiriyah (2018), evaluated Canva as the infographic

medium for presenting educational resources. The study's findings revealed that

Canva offers a variety of themes and professional layouts for creating infographics

for delivering instructional materials.

Canva offers numerous advantages for the language learning of students.

Canva can facilitate their writing by giving pictures, colours, images, photographs,

typeface, and graphics. It is believed that using Canva enhanced their English

learning creativity. Using Canva made the learning process easier for them. Canva

made it uncomplicated for them to communicate their ideas and made it simple for

their audiences to comprehend their messaging. Lastly, using Canva as a

technological medium helps students improve their writing ability. In addition, they

learn how to utilize technology for language acquisition.

As a result, teachers could assign a lab, give a brief introduction to the two

media, and then let students get to work. Canva is a tool used by professional visual

and website designers to create coherent, creative designs that effectively express

important messages to their audiences. Thus, learning how to use this technology

may give students a competitive advantage in the employment market.

DIGITAL TOOL 3 (PADLET)

Padlet, a free web 2.0 application, is a platform for creating virtual walls.

Multiple and diverse file kinds can be "pinned" to a virtual wall that functions like a

notice or whiteboard (word documents, images, audio files, videos).

The creator of a wall controls its content, style, layout, and privacy. When

constructing a wall, the creator can choose from the available 'wallpapers' for the

background, and when there are numerous postings, they can 'organize' them in

different layouts, such as stream, freeform, and grid. Moderators can access, post,

edit, and approve other users' content.

Additionally, the creator can moderate posts before allowing others to access

them. Unless deleted or the wall is deleted, the content of a wall remains permanent.

Additionally, Padlet enables any number of authors to submit comments or upload

files simultaneously. Pallet wall posts will be viewed in real-time. As with any other

web application, Padlet activities require an Internet connection.

Padlet is a perfect platform for idea-collection, sharing, and future

modification (Jaganathan, 2016). It fosters students' creativity by allowing them to

generate and collect ideas, photographs, citations, and other materials in a single

space. It also serves as a virtual notepad or notebook for collecting thoughts, images,

and even video clips.

Padlet is a valuable tool that may be utilized in both standard and

unconventional teaching and learning activities. Padlet reduces the hurdles students

face while conversing with teachers and improves the overall learning experience by
allowing them to participate with the topic material and opinions provided by their

classmates. Padlet can also be utilized for brainstorming exercises (Kimura, 2018).

Not only that, Padlets can be used for starting activities in any class session,

such as inviting students to post questions based on pre-class reading or to respond

to an open-ended question relating to the topic of the day. In this content-specific

context, Padlet could be a potential tool for collaborative learning, and the concept

promises participatory and dispersed practices to achieve active learning through

collaboration.

In conclusion, Padlet software could assist students to improve their learning

by increasing their participation in classroom and extracurricular activities. The

software offers numerous features and allows students to complete solo and group

assignments in their own environment. Thus it could be said that Padlet is a very

easy-to-use technology that can be applied to engage students in a large number of

ways both inside and outside of the classroom.

CONCLUSION

Digital technologies play an integral role in the success of teaching and

learning. Learning tools are important to enhance students’ participation and motivate

them to learn(Ahmed, Almuniem, & Almabhouh, 2016). In 21st-century learning,

there are many learning tools that can be utilized to support teaching and learning

activities. Each tool has its own functions and roles in order to encourage classroom

engagement among students

As teachers, we need to see if we can tap into that enthusiasm. In that

situation, students will learn honestly by doing what they usually do. They need

meaningful learning more than before because they need to understand which

abilities will help them compete in the future.

Teachers are encouraged to incorporate digital tools into their curriculum in

order to improve students' understanding and foster active learning among students.

This is consistent with current pedagogical expectations, which further promote an

atmosphere of active learning in the classroom.

As a tool in the process of teaching and learning, digital tools have a positive

impact on increasing student interest and performance. It can be stated from the

analysis that it brings together collaboration, emotion, and play, it is about creating a

positive learning environment. However, it should be noted, that these tools! only acts

as a complement, alternative, and aid to teachers. Digital tools will not take over the

duties and roles of teachers in the teaching and learning process but it is only an

alternative to delivering information to students in a more engaging, clear, and

up-to-date manner.
