ANOVA

ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) is a statistical test that compares the means of three or more groups, making it suitable for experiments with multiple categories. The procedure involves setting hypotheses, calculating sums of squares, and preparing an ANOVA table to determine if significant differences exist among the groups. The conclusion is drawn based on the comparison of calculated values with table values to accept or reject the null hypothesis.

 ANOVA(Analysis of Varience)

 ANOVA is a statistical test used to examine differences among the means

of three or more groups.
 Unlike a t-test, which only compares two groups, ANOVA can handle
multiple groups in a single analysis, making it an essential tool for
experiments with more than two categories.
For example, if a researcher wants to test the effects of three different study
methods on student performance, ANOVA can help determine if there are
significant performance differences among the groups.

 Procedure to calculate ANOVA:-

1. Set Null and Alternative Hypotheses
H0 : There is no significant different between the variables.
H1: There is a significant different between the variables.
2. Level of significant
If, α value is no given in the question; then we take 5%.
3. Find out the grand total
4. No. of Observation
(ROW*COLUMN)
5. Correction Factor
CF=Grand total2/Observation
6. Some of Square Total(SST)A
(X12+ X 22+X 32)- CF
7. Some of Square Rows(SSR)

8. Some of Square Columns(SSC) {Two-way Analysis only}

9. Some of Square Error(SSE)

SST-SSR{One-way Analysis only}
SST-SSC-SSR{Two-way Analysis only}

10. Prepare ANOVA table {One-way Analysis only}
Source of Sum of Degree of Mean Square F. ratio
Variation Square Freedom
Sample SSB C-1 MSB (MSB/MSW)
Between SSB/(C-1)
Sample SSW n-c MSW
Within SSW/(n-k)
Sample Total SSB+SSW n-1

{Two-way Analysis only}

Source of Sum of Degree of Mean Square F. ratio
variation Square Freedom
Sample SSB r-1 MSB (MSB/MSE)
Between SSB/(r-1)
Sample SSC c-1 MSC (MSC/MSE)
Column SSC/(c-1)
Sample Error SSE (r-1)(c-1) MSE
SSE/[(r-1)(c-1)]
Sample Total SSB+SSC+SSE n-1

11. Conclusion
If, Calculated value is GREATER THAN the Table vale; then NULL
HYPOTHESES IS REJECTED.
if, Calculated value is LESS THAN the Table vale; then NULL
HYPOTHESES IS ACCEPTED.
