- Pronunciation: some/any; weak form “of”
4. Objectives
By the end of this project, students will be able to:
- plan and describe a perfect meal for a specific occasion (e.g. birthday, wedding, family dinner, holiday,
picnic, a first date, etc.);
- present their meal clearly using organized ideas and descriptive language;
- improve pronunciation, focusing on “some/any” and weak forms of “of” for natural speech flow;

interactive way;
- develop confidence in using English in real-life situations.
5. Materials needed
- A TV for presenting slides
- Whiteboard and markers (optional)
- Access to a computer and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint or Google Slides)
- Timer or stopwatch
6. Instructions for lecturers
Lecturers either conduct projects in the classroom or have students prepare them in advance at home, with the
choice depending on the students' proficiency level in each class. In the latter case, students subsequently
present their projects in class.
In class, lecturers should:
- explain the purpose and expected outcomes of the activity;
- inform students that they will participate in a group presentation and design a perfect meal for a
specific occasion (e.g., a birthday party, a family reunion, a Christmas dinner, a picnic, a first date,
etc.);
- introduce the presentation format (10-15 minutes per group, using slides/posters);
- divide the class into groups of 2-3 members, ensuring diversity in English proficiency levels for
better collaboration;
- assign or let groups choose an occasion;
- set clear deadlines for preparation and presentation;
- encourage eye contact, clear pronunciation, and confidence while speaking;
- after each presentation, lead a Q&A session;
- provide constructive feedback on clarity and organization of ideas, presentation skills, grammar and
vocabulary usage.

7. Guidelines for meal planning
Each group should design a complete meal with:
• starter (1-2 dishes)
• main course (2-3 dishes)
• dessert (1-2 dishes)
• drink
For each dish, students must:
• name the dishes;
• list the main ingredients, using quantifiers, containers, and portions;
• explain why it is part of a "perfect meal" (e.g. taste, tradition, health benefits, celebration, culture,
etc.).
8. Procedure for students
Step 1: Choose an occasion
• Think of a special event and select a meal that fits the occasion (e.g. a Christmas dinner, a summer
picnic, a romantic dinner, a birthday party, etc.).
• Discuss as a group and agree on the theme of the meal.
Step 2: Plan the perfect meal
• Choose specific dishes for each course (starter, main course, dessert, drink).
• List the main ingredients of each dish.
• Use quantifiers, containers, and portions to describe the ingredients (e.g., a few slices of cheese, a
bowl of soup, a bottle of fresh juice).
• Think about why the meal is perfect for the occasion (e.g. taste, tradition, health benefits,
celebration, culture, etc.).
Step 3: Prepare a presentation
• Create slides or a poster with:
 the occasion (what is the event? why is it special?)
 meal description (each course, ingredients, explanation of choices)
 visuals (pictures of the dishes, ingredients)
• Ensure each student has a speaking role in the presentation.
Step 4: Practice your presentation
• Rehearse together, focusing on clear pronunciation and fluency.
• Ensure everyone is confident with their speaking parts.
Step 5: Present to the class
• Speak clearly and confidently while describing the meal.
• Use visuals to showcase the dishes and explain why it is perfect for the occasion.
• Keep the presentation engaging by making eye contact and involving the audience.
• Encourage audience participation with a question like, “Would you like to try this meal? Why or why
not?”
Step 6: Participate in Q&A and reflection
• Answer questions from the lecturer and classmates about your meal.
• Reflect on what you learned about food, language and presenting.

9. Example

Occasion: Picnic Lunch

Student 1: Introduction & Starters (3-5 minutes)

Greet the audience & introduce the group
"Hello everyone! We are Group [Number], and today we are excited to share our idea of a perfect picnic
meal. My name is [Name], and these are my teammates [Name] and [Name]."
Introduce the picnic details
"We design this picnic meal for four people to enjoy together. A picnic is a great way to enjoy nature, and
we want to create a meal that is easy to carry, fresh, and delicious."
Describe the meal structure
"Our meal includes three courses: a starter, a main course with a drink, and a dessert. Each course has one
or two dishes that are simple but tasty, making the picnic both enjoyable and convenient."
Describe the starters
“For the starter, we have two simple and familiar dishes that are perfect for a picnic: pasta salad and mini
sandwiches.

The first dish is pasta salad. We need a lot of pasta (about 300g), a few tomatoes (about 3-4), half of a
cucumber, many olives (around 10-12), and a few slices of cheese. There is also a little olive oil (about 2
tablespoons), a little salt (1/2 teaspoon), and a few leaves of basil. We cook the pasta first and then chop
the tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and cheese into small pieces. Finally, we mix everything together in a
medium-sized bowl, add olive oil, salt, and basil, and stir. We store the salad in a container with a lid to
keep it fresh.

For the second dish - mini sandwiches, we need a few slices of bread (6-8 small slices), a little butter, a few
slices of ham, and a few slices of cheese. We also need a few leaves of lettuce. We spread butter on the bread,
add ham, cheese, and lettuce, and then close the sandwiches. We arrange them in a small picnic box or
container to keep them together and easy to serve.”

Student 2: Main Course (3-5 minutes)

"For the main course, we have three simple dishes that are easy to enjoy outdoors: grilled chicken
skewers, cheese and tomato wraps, vegetable stir-fry with rice.

For the grilled chicken skewers, we need many pieces of chicken (about 800g), a lot of olive oil (about 4
tablespoons), a few cloves of garlic (2-3, minced), and a few herbs like rosemary and thyme. We also need
a little salt (1 teaspoon) and a little pepper (1/2 teaspoon) to season the chicken. We place the chicken
onto skewers and grill them. These skewers are easy to eat by hand and packed with flavor. Each person
gets 2-3 skewers. We pack them in a small container or wrap them in foil to keep them warm and fresh.

For the cheese and tomato wraps, we need many soft tortillas (about 6-8), a lot of melted cheese (around
200g), a few fresh tomatoes (about 3-4), and a few leaves of lettuce. We also need a little olive oil (about 1
tablespoon) and a little salt (1/2 teaspoon). We roll the tortillas with melted cheese, fresh tomatoes, and
lettuce. These wraps are simple and tasty, perfect for a light and fresh meal. We keep them in foil or paper
to keep them fresh.

For the vegetable stir-fry with rice, we need many colorful vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, and
carrots. We also need a little soy sauce (about 2 tablespoons) and a lot of rice. We mix the vegetables with
the soy sauce and serve them with the rice. This dish is simple and tasty, perfect for a picnic. We store it in
a small container to keep it fresh and easy to serve.”

Student 3: Desserts, Drink & Conclusion (3-5 minutes)

" To finish off our perfect picnic meal, we have a simple and refreshing dessert. For dessert, we serve fruit
salad with honey and mint. We need many fresh fruits like strawberries (about 200g), grapes (about 200g),
melon (about 300g), and kiwi (about 3-4). We also need a little honey (about 2 tablespoons) and a few fresh
mint leaves. We mix the fruits together, pour a little honey over them, and top them with mint leaves. This
fruit salad is light, healthy, and refreshing, perfect for a warm day. We pack it in a medium-sized container
to keep it fresh and easy to serve. Each person will get about 1 cup of fruit salad.

For the drink, we choose iced tea with lemon. We need a lot of brewed black tea (about 1 liter), a few fresh
lemons (about 2-3), and a little sugar or honey (about 2 tablespoons). We mix the tea with ice, squeeze fresh
lemon juice, and add a little sugar or honey for sweetness. This iced tea is cool, soothing, and pairs perfectly
with the rest of the meal. We pack it in a large bottle or pitcher to keep it cold and easy to serve. Each person
gets about 1 cup of iced tea.

Thank you all for listening to our picnic meal ideas! We hope you’re as excited about this menu as we are.
To sum up, this meal is easy to prepare, simple to eat, and perfect for enjoying outdoors with friends or
family. We’ve got a refreshing pasta salad and mini sandwiches for starters, then grilled chicken skewers,
cheese and tomato wraps, and vegetable stir-fry with rice for the main course. To finish, there’s a sweet fruit
salad with honey and mint, and a cool glass of iced tea with lemon.

We think this meal is perfect for a picnic because it’s balanced, delicious, and easy to pack and share. The
combination of fresh ingredients, light yet satisfying dishes, and refreshing flavors makes it enjoyable for
everyone. Whether you're in a park, by the beach, or in your backyard, these dishes bring a sense of
togetherness and fun. Now, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Would you like to try this meal? Do you have
any favorite picnic foods?”
