Preventive Maintenance Sop For Water Filter 19-12-24
Preventive Maintenance Sop For Water Filter 19-12-24
Purpose: In order to maintain the Reverse Osmosis water purification system in operational mode and the water
purifier ready for use, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the water purifier must be established.
Scope: Water purifiers (reverse osmosis water purification systems) used in laboratory and
pharmaceutical formulation processes are covered by this SOP.
Responsibility:
• Department Head: In charge of organizing and carrying out this process.
• Quality Assurance: In charge of this procedure's review, approval, control, and release.
• Machine Operator: In charge of running the device.
• The person in charge of maintenance tasks is the maintenance head.
Accountability:
Management
Procedure:
• Look for any obstacles in the water line.
• Verify that the pump's rotation matches the arrow on the pump.
• Confirm that every piece of equipment is set up and working.
• All plumbing fittings should be tightened.
• Make sure the optional recycle valve is slightly open and open the panel's pressure
regulator valve. If your model has open pump throttling valves, keep them half open.
• After the system was started, the product (permeate) water tubing was disconnected
and instructed to drain for the first hour only.
• Press the pressure relief button to release air from the pre-filter housings.
• Press "ON" on the on/off switch.
• After the pump has opened and water has started to circulate through the system,
check the solenoid.
• The moment has arrived to gradually close the pressure regulator valve by two thirds
open in order to adjust the system's balance when the RO high-pressure pump is
turned on (it has a time delay to let the unit to fill with water). Use a wrench to
remove the valve cover.
• To balance the system on bigger systems with pump throttling valves, open the gate
valve to start raising the pressure.
• On the concentrate pressure gauge, let the unit produce at 100 psi of pressure.
• Modify the pump throttle valve to reflect the indicated permeate output and recovery
rates. Remember that system pressure cannot be raised above 225 psi.
• Give the device about an hour to drain the process water.
• Turn the unit "OFF," then turn it back on after reconnecting the permeate line to the
storage tank.
• Permit the storage tank to fill.
• To confirm a 97% TDS decrease, track conductivity on the permeate line.
• Confirm that when the high level is reached, the level control turns the RO system
"ON" and "OFF."
• Enter the final conductivity, temperature, pressure, and flow measurements on the
log sheet.
•The following are included in the water purifier control panel:
counter and the cumulative timer. The number "99" will be displayed when the TDS is
abnormally high. To go to the accumulated timer display, press the button once again.
• Flushing: While the RO membranes are being flushed, light is on.
• Producing: whenever the booster pump is operating, a green light appears.
• Adequate water supply pressure is demonstrated by the light remaining on continuously while water is
being delivered. The LED will flash if the water supply pressure is insufficient. To prevent the system
from operating without incoming water, connect to the pressure switch.
Note: When the inlet pressure drops below 25 psi, a factory-installed pressure switch is triggered.
• Manual flushing: When flushing the RO membranes by hand, the light is on.
Functions of the Controller:
When the tank is full, the electricity is first turned on, and the system has been operating continuously for
twenty-four (24) hours, flushing is automatically completed.
This is a programmed delay.
Maintenance:
• Store membranes in a 0.2% hydrogen peroxide solution if the RO system won't be used for at least 72 hours.
•Enter operating settings on the Machine Log Sheet and perform a daily check of the RO system.
•In the event of a rise in pressure, a drop in output, or even a reduction in the quality of the water, the operators
should monitor trends and make necessary adjustments.
Keep an eye on the pre-filters' pressure readings.
• Keep in mind that activated carbon pre-filters should be replaced every three months.
• Every three months, inspect the pump seals. Note: When the feed water pressure differential doubles from the
original, it is recommended to replace the pre-filter cartridges.
• An optional pressure gauge In order to more accurately assess whether this is required, an optional pressure
gauge ought to be
Membrane cleaning:
• External membrane washing at regular intervals can improve the devices' operational properties. In normal
operation, the membranes are clogged by organics, colloidal and large macromolecules, biological materials,
and mineral deposits.
• Chemicals and cleaning products are dangerous and can cause property damage as well as personal injury.
• Verify and abide by the safety and disposal directions.
Inorganic anti-fouling cleaning:
An acid-cleaning solution can be used to treat the inorganic salts of CaCO3, CaSO4, BaSO4, and iron-
containing metal oxides from reverse osmosis membranes; sulfuric acid should not be used as it may cause
calcium sulfate to precipitate onto the membranes.
Suggested
ended cleaning solutions for inorganic cleaning include:
• A 0.2% hydrochloric acid solution
• A 0.5% phosphoric acid solution
• A 1.0% organic anti-fouling cleaning solution containing sodium hydrosulfite.
• Make use of an alkaline cleaning solution for membranes that eliminates silica, biofilms, and organic
materials.
Acknowledge
ble cleaning solutions for organic cleaning include:
• A solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at 0.1%
• A 0.1% tetra-sodium salt of ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (Na-EDTA) and 0.1% sodium hydroxide
(NaOH) solution.
• A mixture of 0.05% sodium salt of dodecyl-sulfate (NaDDS) and 0.1% sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
• A mixture of 1.0% Na-EDTA, 1.0% sodium triphosphate (STP), and 1.0% trisodium phosphate (TSP).
The pH of the aforementioned solutions should normally be 12, and their temperature should not exceed 86 °F.
Cleaning and disinfecting You can use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect.
