People spend most of their time looking for the right


information because they’re not aware of the proper
search techniques.

Learning and using good search techniques will help

1- Search For Specific Phrase
• Use quotation marks “………” to
specify exact phrases: “science fair
”
2- Exclude Or Include Terms
• Use the plus (+) and minus (-) sign to
• include and exclude words: “science fair” +water
experiments vs “science fair” –plant experiments
3- Search Related Links
• Show Similar Sites.

• Use To Find The Competitors.

• For Example: Related:amazon.Com It Will Show You Similar Sites


Of Amazon And The Competitors Of Amazon.
4- Search For Missing Word
The asterisk works as a wild card within searches. It can be
used in place of a missing word or part of a word, which is
useful for completing phrases, but also when you’re trying to
search for a less definite article.

For example: *** is a word unknown to me.”

5- Search Between The Specific Range
• Google can also retrieve the specific range of
information related to date, price, and measurement;
you just have to put two dots (..) in-between dates,
prices, and measurements without space.

For example: -
a) book $10..$50
b) monitor 20..50 inches
c) Egypt 2000..2002
If you type [book $10..$50] in the Google search box,
resultant will display all books of range in-between $10
to $50. Shown in the figure below.
6- Search Specific File Type
• You can retrieve the data in a specific file type format. For that,
in the search box, just mention the file type before the keyword
(data) you want to retrieve from Google database.

For example: filetype:pdf HTML lessons will only


display the of HTLM lesson PDF.
7- Site Search
• Shows only pages from that site.
• Use to search within a website.

For example: if you want to see all free video form the
site “http://download.cnet.com/”, just type: free videos
site:download.cnet.com in the Google search box.
8- Image Search
• Images.google.com
• Click camera
• Uses:
• Find every picture of you or any picture you want.
• Find images thieves
• https://images.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl
9- Advanced Search
• Allows a user to specify additional requirements for a search. When used for
searching the Web, an advanced search gives additional information to
Google, which helps refine the search.

“Google Advanced search page” to make your search simple, easy, and
effective.
