MEET MY SUBJECT – ART & DESIGN GCSE

COURSE DESRIPTION
Art GCSE encourages students to develop skills across a range of Art, Craft and Design disciplines in two and three-
dimensional media. This includes drawing, painting, printmaking, clay sculpture, some graphics, textiles and
photography. It provides a foundation for students to pursue further education in Art or to continue their own creative
journeys.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE ART?

Art GCSE doesn’t just prepare you for a career in the subject, it also provides you with key, creative skills that can
support your learning across the wider curriculum and future career paths.
Studying Art will give you a well-rounded set of skills as well as being fun. Art gives you invaluable problem-solving skills
that can be transferred to other subjects. Students who are creative thinkers are able to approach a task in a multitude
of ways, experimenting and exploring until they realise an outcome. Art teaches you to think with an open mind, find
alternatives and tackle any situation with creativity. The creative industry is huge and all around you. From the clothes
you wear, the built environment you live in to the phone you use or computer games you play. They have all been
designed by someone with a creative mind.

Art teaches you perseverance, entrepreneurial skills and the ability to take creative and measured risk. It teaches you
to be original and innovative; skills the next generation are going to need in the ever-changing and challenging world in
which we live.
