Introduction
We're going to jump into using Micromine Spry. If you need help with getting a copy of Micromine Spry and
installing it on your computer, take a look at the module in this course called "Get Micromine Spry".
To start using Micromine Spry, you will need to either start a new project or open an existing project.
If this was not your first time in Micromine Spry, you could select Restore Project Layout before you open a
project you were working on in the past. This will open the project with all the windows laid out the way you
left them.
Micromine Spry gives you lots of windows and window display options. Selecting this checkbox will prevent
you from needing to open and rearrange each window every time you close and re-open a project.

Understand the Project Explorer

The Project Explorer allows you to easily navigate through the main areas of Micromine Spry. You will find
most things specific to each project here.
Our new project, and every project, has these main areas.
Starting from the bottom, Scripting is a tool used to customise Micromine Spry in almost any way imaginable.
This is an advanced feature that you may never need, and definitely won't need as a new user of Micromine
Spry.
If you do think of something you need down the track that you just can't achieve with the built in features of
Micromine Spry, then Scripting could be the solution. In this case, contact Micromine for assistance with this
feature.
Design is a CAD space for visualising spatial data related to your mine site.
The Documents feature enables the storage of documents as part of your Micromine Spry project. This allows
you to easily keep relevant files together.
For example, you can take advantage of spreadsheeting features directly from within Micromine Spry and
represent your schedule with the charts and graphs available.
Another example is a document, such as a PDF, that contains the technical specification for a piece of
equipment used at your mine, such as the specifications for a Cat 6060 excavator.
We will be looking at the Data and Scenarios features in this Learning Pathway.
Data is a list of all the tables that are contained within the model of the mine.
The tables store the inputs into your schedule. Typical tables are a deposit table to store your reserved mining
data, dump tables to store your designs for your waste destinations, and calendar tables to store information
about equipment and locations that might change month over month.
Scenarios are where spry schedules are stored. We call them scenarios because you can schedule against the
same input data in multiple different configurations.
Scenarios is where you tell Micromine Spry how you want to use the data – how you want to mine. In each
scenario you specify what you want to dig; what you want to treat as coal; what you want to treat as waste.
This all goes in to Scenarios.
