ESSAYS for B2

1. DEFORESTATION: Consequences and Solutions

B1

It is the fact that deforestation is one of the biggest problems in many countries. People
cut down trees for farming, mining, construction or timber. Governments have been
working hard to deal with the problem.

There are some consequences of deforestation. First, it can destroy the nature where a
lot of animals and trees live. Many animals can die because they do not have anywhere to
live and get food. Second, it can badly affect the environment as trees can make oxygen
that is necessary for people. It can also lead to floods and other natural problems.

There are some solutions to deforestation. First, people need to plant more trees, expand
and protect forests. This can give animals a safe place to live in. Second, governments
should have policies to protect forests, fine anyone who destroy forests and educate
people about the importance of forests. Finally, people can use other sources of energy to
replace wood and other materials to make paper.

In conclusion, the consequences of deforestation are serious and it is high time for people
to do something to stop or reduce forestation. It is the responsibility of both individuals
and governments to preserve forests.

B2
Deforestation is the process of clearing a large areas forests for some purposes. People
cut down trees for farming, mining, construction or timber. Deforestation is one of the
biggest problems in many countries that governments have been working hard to deal
with the problem.

There are some consequences of deforestation. First, it can destroy the natural habitats
of many wild plants and animals and damage the ecosystem. A big number of wild
animals can become extinct or endangered because they do not have anywhere to live
and get food. Second, it can negatively affect the environment as trees can make oxygen
that is necessary for people. It can also lead to many natural disasters like floods,
draughts, climate changes and have direct impacts on people’s life.

To solve the problem of deforestation, some solutions can be looked into. First, a big
number of trees must be grown to green bare forests and hills. This can provide wild
animals a safe natural habitat to live in and prevent soil erosion. Second, governments
should have policies to encourage forestation, protect forests and strict rules for anyone
who destroy forests and educate people about the importance of forests and awareness
of preserving natural resources. Finally, people can use other sources of energy to replace
wood and other materials to make paper.

In conclusion, the consequences of deforestation are serious and it is high time for people
to do something to stop or reduce forestation. It is the responsibility of both individuals
and governments to preserve forests.

2. The advantages and disadvantages of public transport

B1
We must say that public transport plays an important part in our life. More
and more people are becoming interested in public transport. This essay will
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of public transport

On the one hand, public transport is good for people. It brings them some
benefits. It is cheap so people can save a lot of money for travelling. Besides, it
is safe. It never causes accidents. Moreover, it is comfortable as people do not
have to do anything. They can relax and do other things on the bus.

On the other hand, however, public transport has disadvantages. It is not

convenient. People cannot go anywhere at any time and they have to wait for
the bus. In addition, it is crowded so it is noisy because there are many people
on the bus.

To sum up, public transport has both benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I
prefer using my car as I live far from the bus stop. However, I must say that it
is expensive so I waste a lot of money.

B2

It is the fact that governments have been trying hard to improve public
transport system to encourage people to travel by bus or subway instead of
using their private vehicles. However, some people prefer using their
motorbikes or cars to travel around. This essay will discuss both benefits and
limitations of public transport.

On the one hand, we cannot deny that public transport has some good
points that can attract some kinds of people. It is economical to commute by
bus or subway. It means using public transport can save us a big sum of
money for travelling. This is because we do not have to pay for the petrol,
the parking lot or buying the vehicles. This is ideal for students or people
with low income. Additionally, public transport can contribute to the
protection of the environment and reduction of the traffic jams as it can
reduce the number of vehicles on the road. It is true that more and more
people are becoming interested in travelling by public transport as it is
beneficial for not only the individuals but also for the whole society.

On the other hand, however, there exist some limitations when using public
transport. The very first drawback that we should not forget is that travelling
by bus is not convenient at all if we live far from the bus stop and travel for
long distance. It may take time for us to walk and wait for the bus to come.
Furthermore, it is noisy and crowded on the bus as there are too many
people sharing the bus.

To sum up, public transport has both benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I
prefer using my car as I live far from the bus stop. However, I must say that it
is expensive so I waste a lot of money.

3. Opinion essay: bad effects of computer games

We must say that more and more people are becoming interested in playing computer
games. Some people argue that computer games are harmful to students than beneficial.
I strongly agree with the statement.

Firstly, we should not forget that playing computer games is not good for students’
health. It is harmful to their eyes and backs. It destroys their health. This is because they
look at the screen for too long. Their eyes can become weak and short-sighted. And they
sit in front of the computer for many hours and they have pain in their backs. Besides,
playing computer games can lead to being overweight (obesity) because the students do
not have time to play sports.

Secondly, it is the fact that playing computer games wastes time and money. Some
students can play games all day because computer games are very interesting and they
have fun when they play with their friends. Students have to spend a lot of money on
using computers and buying things in the games.

Finally, it is true that playing computer games can badly affect students’ study because
they spend too much time on games and so they do not have time for their study. As a
result, the students can get bad marks or drop out of school.

To sum up, computer games are harmful to students than beneficial/ students should not
play games.

To sum up, playing games not only destroy students’ health, wastes time and money but
also badly affects their study. Therefore, students should not play games. Parents should
limit the time for their children to play games.

4. Benefits of studying abroad

These days, there has been an increasing number of students who desire to study abroad.
It is believed that studying overseas provides students with a life-changing opportunity.
My essay will examine the positive side of this tendency.

First and foremost, studying abroad is the best way to improve language proficiency. I
am going to take English as an example. It is obvious that learning English in a native
country generates motivation for students. One of the biggest challenges when picking up
a new language is that students do not have many chances to practice if they learn in
their own country. However, in an English-speaking country, language-learners tend to
use it with native speakers not only in their classes but also in their daily conversations.

Secondly, learning in a foreign country broadens students’ knowledge and strengthen

their relationships. It is the fact that teachers from well-known universities equip their
students with not only academic knowledge but also real-life experience. In addition,
getting to know a culture and making new friends are always fascinating things to do.

Last but not least, learning abroad enables students to become more independent. To
be specific, living away from their parents forces them to do everything on their own such
as buying groceries, paying bills, preparing meals, managing money and so on. Being able
to cope with many tasks alone is an invaluable skill that any overseas student desires to
have.

In conclusion, studying abroad has some enormous advantages. It is advisable that

students should learn overseas in order to build a brighter future.

5. Should young people change jobs often?

These days, modern technology has made it possible for young people to find a new job
easily. In my opinion, I strongly believe that trying different jobs would be far better than
just staying with one job for a long period for the following reasons.

To begin with, changing occupations frequently provides youngsters with a better

understanding of themselves. By doing that, they will have more chance to find out not
only their strengths but also their weaknesses. According to some research, a substantial
number of successful workers change their jobs at least once in their career path.
Secondly, different jobs equip people with a diverse skill set. It is obvious that working
with new colleagues upgrades their communication skill, dealing with plenty of situations
makes them a better problem-solver and so on. Therefore, those powers will lead people
to become brilliant candidates that any recruiter desperately want to hire.

Last but not least, changing jobs gives youngsters opportunities to earn more money. It is
the fact that companies always tend to cut down their expenses. Thus, it can be quite a
long time for people to get a huge increase in their salary by staying in an organization

In conclusion, I think it would be a good idea for young people to try various occupations
in their lives in order to find out their talents, develop their skills and improve their
earnings.

6. The benefits of reading pictured pictures for children

It is undeniable that picture books bring tremendous benefits to children. My essay will
examine the positive impacts of that visual material on the development of infants.

First and foremost, reading picture books is a fun way to learn. A picture book carries a
rich combination of images and words. Those contents not only hold children’s attention
but also enable them to discover the connection between words and pictures. For
instance, they are able to capture what a red car means or what a green tree looks like. In
addition, if children start reading at the early stage of their life, they are much more likely
to establish their reading habit.

Secondly, picture books encourage imagination and creativity. By organizing the

sequence of events in a story, kids can practice to understand what they read in their own
way. In addition, books filled with images allow kids to make predictions. They can pair
the words with the expressions or setting shown in the pictures to make guess about
what are coming next in the story.

Last but not least, picture books provide people with a great opportunity to create
family bonding. For instance, parents can read stories for their children before they go to
bed on a daily basis. For children, a parent’s voice is cosy and familiar. Bedtime stories not
only allow parents to spend quality time with their kids but also help them escape from
the stress of a long day at school.

For those reasons, I strongly believe that reading picture books is the best way for
children to broaden their knowledge about various aspects of life.

7. The benefits of working from home

Modern technology has made it possible for people to work at home most of the time
instead of going to an office these days. However, this trend can have negative impacts in
several ways. This essay will examine both benefits and drawbacks of teleworking.

On the one hand, employees benefit substantially from teleworking. To begin with,
working at home enables employees to save a great deal of time. It is not necessary for
those who work remotely to get up early to prepare formal attires, especially for women
who spend much time putting on make-up. Another plus point of teleworking is that
home-workers can have a healthier life. To be specific, they can avoid traffic jams and
they do not have to suffer from air pollution as well. In other words, distant working
allows employees to have more energy to devote themselves to their work.

On the other hand, people who choose to work at home easily get distracted by external
factors such as television, household chores. From my past experience, my company
allowed me to work at home for three months due to COVID-19 lockdown. While I was
working, my nephew knocked the door and asked me to help him do his homework. I got
angry sometimes. Furthermore, since employees are able to work under no supervision,
their performances are likely to decrease significantly.

It is becoming increasingly popular that people tend to work at home instead of going to
the office because of the countless benefits it may bring. However, working from home
also has some disadvantages. Organizations should take several things into consideration
before deciding their employees to either work at home or not.

8. Advantages and disadvantages of watching TV for children

Television has become an essential part of our daily lives. Some people say that watching TV
has positive effects on children while others argue that it is harmful to infants.

On the one hand, watching TV brings countless benefits to children. We cannot deny that
watching TV is a fun way of learning to infants. They can study while they are enjoying cartoons
or listening to their favorite content creators who they consider as their idols. In addition, using
TV provides youngsters with a better understanding of technology. They will learn how an
application such as Youtube and Facebook operates. This also helps them a lot in developing
their brains and enables them to resolve problems in a logical way.

On the other hand, there are some reasons why people argue that watching TV has negative
impacts on children. One of the most obvious problems is that electronic device causes serious
health problems to infants. Watching TV continuously for a long period may damage their eyes,
lead to backache or even obesity. Furthermore, inappropriate contents are the harmful factor
to the children’s development. Youngsters tend to imitate adults’ actions very quickly. However,
they do not have the ability to distinguish between right or wrong. Last but not least, children
become more isolated when they spend too much time in front of the TV. In fact, children who
have more screen time have less interaction with their friends.

In conclusion, watching TV brings both positive and negative impacts to the children. In my
opinion, infants should watch television under their supervision of the parents.
9. The benefits of university education

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are deeply concerned about the purpose of
university education. My essay will examine the positive impacts of getting a bachelor
degree.

To begin with, universities play a critical role in training people for the workforce. It is
undeniable that most jobs require students to have a degree from a college or university, as
well as the essential knowledge related to their career fields such as technology, finance,
commerce, health care and so on. In addition, well-educated people tend to have higher
salary than those who only finish high school. As a result, a lot of people wish to keep
studying after school to get better jobs.

Secondly, students benefit substantially from learning with their teachers at universities. To
be specific, professors provide students with broad knowledge about various aspects of life.
Moreover, many teachers are entrepreneurs who can give students plenty of case studies
and share their practical experience.

Last but not least, students have a lot opportunities to enhance various skills. For instance,
discussion with classmates or doing homework together enables them to upgrade their
collaboration and communication skills. These powers will be extremely helpful for their
future.

To sum up, attendance in universities brings countless benefits to students. Personally, I

strongly believe that getting a bachelor degree is mandatory for everyone to improve their
quality of life.

10. BAD EFFECTS OF BRAIN DRAIN

In recent times, more and more experts are leaving their own countries in order to get
better opportunities in developed nations. My essay will examine the negative impacts of
this worrying phenomenon.

First and foremost, it is obvious that the lack of professionals in a particular area is
extremely dangerous. Since people who live in the countryside have to travel a long way to
get treatments and cures, many of them are not able to reach urban hospitals and end up
dying. As a result, we can see endless queues of patients at the hospitals. The regional living
standard cannot improve sustainably in the absence of an adequate health care system.

Secondly, brain drain leaves demanding work fields with no employees. For instance,
careers in technology fields often require candidates who equipped themselves with a great
qualification. Consequently, there are plenty of opening positions but there are not enough
suitable applicants. It is the fact that workers with those abilities tend to seek for jobs at
companies which are outside their own country.
Last but not least, the emigration of well-educated workers causes a serious effect on the
growth of any nation. For instance, 100 dollars a month is an average salary of a civilian in a
particular country. This number will significantly decrease if numerous well-trained
employees leave their own places and look for better jobs in other nations.

In conclusion, there are various negative impacts of brain drain on a country. Governments
should take immediate actions to overcome those problems in order to help their nations to
develop.

11. THE BAD EFFECTS OF FAST FOOD

Nowadays, the convenience of fast food is undeniable due to its substantial benefits it offers.
However, I really believe that fast food is harmful for the following reasons.

To begin with, fast food is the cause of many serious health problems. More and more
people are keen on junk food although its origin is ambiguous. Fast food contains tons of
sodium and cholesterol which increase the risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood
pressure or even cancer. Medical reports indicate that there has been an increasing number
of obesity patients each year.

Secondly, we are likely to put on weight when consuming too much fast food. Fast food is
often low in protein but high in fat and carbohydrates which can lead you to gain huge
amounts of fat and very little muscle onto your body. Thus, it is advisable to reduce the
portion of fast food intake.

Last but not least, pre-packaged food worsens your lifestyle. We cannot refuse that fast food
is addictive. However, no matter how nice something may be, addiction can never be a good
thing. Consequently, overeating fast food results in poor habits and discourages us from
having a balanced diet and exercising more often.

In conclusion, junk food brings many negative impacts to consumers. Therefore, people
should not eat too much fast food. Instead, they should be aware of their health.

12. NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF SMOKING

According to some research, smoking is harmful to both smokers and non-smokers’ health.
In my opinion, I strongly believe that smoking should be prohibited in public areas for the
following reasons.

First and foremost, smoking has negative impacts on people’s health. Because cigarettes are
made from plenty of toxic elements and chemicals which can increase the risks of various
diseases such as lung cancer, heart attack, diabetes and so on. In addition, tobacco smoke
also has bad effects on surrounding people, especially children and pregnant women.
Medical reports have indicated that millions of people died of smoking every year.
Secondly, smoking seriously damages the environment. Smokers litter the land by throwing
their cigarette filters on the ground everywhere they go. Also, cigarette waste is harmful to
marine life. Moreover, tobacco smoke which is extremely toxic can lead to air pollution.

The final reason is that smokers are bad examples for children to follow. Without the proper
guidance from parents, teenagers are likely to fall into traps or temptation. When they see
an adult smokes, they tend to imitate this wrong action very quickly. By doing so, they
successfully prove that they are mature enough or show their coolness to people around. As
a result, this can directly affect the development of their personalities.

In conclusion, smoking should be banned due to its harmful effects. Therefore, people
should quit smoking immediately in order to stay healthy, keep the environment clean and
improve their quality of life.
