"PIE GRAPH SONG"
(VERSE 1)
PIE GRAPH, PIE GRAPH, SHOW US MORE,
SLICES TELLING FACTS GALORE,
BIG AND SMALL, THEY EACH BELONG,
HELPING US TO SEE WHAT'S WRONG,
PIE GRAPH, PIE GRAPH, BRIGHT AND TRUE,
NUMBERS TELL US WHAT TO DO!
(VERSE 2)
COLORS, LABELS, ALL SO NEAT,
SHOW THE DATA, WHAT A TREAT!
SLICE IT UP, AND YOU WILL SEE,
WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN TO ME,
PIE GRAPH, PIE GRAPH, IN THE SKY,
WE CAN SEE THE STATS GO BY!

Pie Graph
Pie graph is in the form of a circle or a big pie that
represents the whole data. Each part of the pie represents
a subcategory of components of the wholedata. They help
show the proportion and percentage of each category that
constitutes the data, as each slice is proportional to the
quantity of data it represents.
DISCUSSION
The main use of pie graph is to show comparison, you can
easily see which item constitutes the biggest and least part
or amount. Using different colors for the slices to denote
the different categories makes the pie graph more
attractive and easier to interpret.
1.Find the Total
Add the value of all categories.
In our problem, the total monthly expenses of Leocel are
10.000.
The breakdown is as follows:
Category value
STEPS IN
₱1000
CONSTRUCTING Boarding House
Transportation ₱500
Savings ₱4000
Total ₱10000
2. Convert the Categories to Percentage
Multiply the value of each category to 100 and divide to
the total to get the percent .
Example:
For boarding house: 1000 x 100 =10%
10 000
Category value Percentage
STEPS IN
₱1000
CONSTRUCTING Boarding House 10%
Transportation ₱500 5%
a. Draw a circle.
STEPS IN
CONSTRUCTING
A PIE GRAPH
STEPS IN
CONSTRUCTING d. Measure out the first slice of the pie with a
A PIE GRAPH protractor for the accuracy of the angle.
For example, for the boarding house slice you would
measure 36° from the first line and put a dot on the
line outside of the circle at the point corresponding to
that angle.
Apple ₱200
GROUP ACTIVITY
Orange ₱100
Watermelon ₱50
Mango ₱150
Total ₱500
YOU WILL NEED TO USE A PROTRACTOR TO
MEASURE THE ANGLES OF EACH SLICE. YOU CAN
USE DIFFERENT COLORS TO REPRESENT EACH
FRUIT.
GROUP ACTIVITY
100 KIDS WERE SURVEYED ON THEIR FAVORITE SPORTS. THE PIE GRAPH
IS MADE ACCORDING TO THEIR RESPONSES. USE THE PIE GRAPH TO
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.
