Investigatory Project

The document outlines an investigatory project aimed at finding the determinant and adjoint of a 4x4 matrix to determine its inverse. It includes procedures for calculating the determinant and adjoint, as well as the conclusion that the inverse of a matrix can be determined using these methods. References to relevant mathematical literature are also provided.

Investigatory Project [Draft]
 Aim: To find the Determinant and Adjoin of a 4x4 matrix hence finding the Inverse of a
4x4 matrix
 Learning Objective: Finding the Determinant and Adjoin of a 4x4 matrix to find the
Inverse of a 4x4 matrix
 Procedure:
o 4x4 matrix representation:

o Finding the determinant of a 4x4 matrix:

It’s similar to finding the determinant of the 3x3 matrix but you have to find the
determinant of the determinant matrix

To find the determinant of matrix A:

From the equation derived above, find the Determinant of the 3x3 matrices:

Multiply the value found with the corresponding element of the first column:
on solving to get the determinant of the matrix:

o Finding the adjoint of a 4x4 matrix:

To Find minors:
To find cofactors:
((-1)i+j

)
Then adj a is obtained by transpose(T) of cofactors

Adjoint of A = (cofactor A)T

~
Now A as:

Using this, We get A-1 as:

1 ~
A-1 = A
¿ A∨¿ ¿
 Conclusion: Inverse of a matrix is determined by using determinant and Adjoint of a
given matrix A.
