Graphic
A SmartArt graphic is a visual representation of information that you create by
choosing from among various layouts to communicate your message or ideas
effectively. SmartArt graphics can illustrate processes, hierarchies, cycles, lists,
and relationships. You can include text and pictures in a SmartArt graphic, and
you can apply colors, effects, and styles that coordinate with the presentation

Activity 2.27: Creating a SmartArt


Graphic from Bulleted Points

You can convert an existing bulleted list into a SmartArt graphic. When you
create a SmartArt graphic, consider the message that you are trying to convey,
and then choose an appropriate layout. The table in Figure 2.45 describes types
of SmartArt layouts and suggested purposes.

1. Display Slide 4, and then click anywhere in the bulleted list in the content

placeholder. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Convert to


SmartArt . Below the gallery, click More SmartArt Graphics.

Three sections comprise the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box.


The left section lists the SmartArt graphic types. The center section
displays the SmartArt layouts according to type. The third section
displays the selected SmartArt graphic, its name, and a description of
its purpose.

Another Way
Right-click on a bulleted list to display the shortcut menu, point to Convert to
SmartArt, and then click More SmartArt Graphics.

You can type text directly into the shapes or you can type text in the
Text Pane, which may display to the left of your SmartArt graphic.
You can toggle the Text Pane display by clicking the Text Pane tab—
the small left arrow on the left side of the SmartArt graphic border—
or by clicking the Text Pane button in the Create Graphic group.

Style of a SmartArt Graphic
SmartArt Styles are combinations of formatting effects that you can apply to
SmartArt graphics.

1. With Slide 3 displayed, if necessary, select the SmartArt. On the SmartArt

Design tab, in the SmartArt Styles group, click Change Colors. In the color
gallery, under Colorful, click the third style—Colorful Range - Accent
Colors 3 to 4—to change the colors.

2. On the SmartArt Design tab, in the SmartArt Styles group, click More

Activity 2.34: Converting a SmartArt


to Text
SmartArt can be converted to text. The text in the shapes will be converted into a
bulleted list.

1. Display Slide 4, and then click anywhere in the SmartArt graphic. On the

SmartArt Design tab, in the Reset group, click Convert, and then click
Convert to Text to convert the SmartArt graphic back to a bulleted list.
