SUPERVISED PRACTICAL ASSIGNMENT (SPA) – CFD: HEAT TRANSFER IN

A CUBIC ENCLOSURE

Objective:
Simulate heat transfer of air inside a 1-meter cubic enclosure using Ansys Fluent,
following the step-by-step methodology presented in Lecture 2.

📌 General Instructions:

Each student must submit a compressed ZIP file named as follows:

LastName_FirstName_CubeHeatTransfer.zip
Example: Drame_Oumar_CubeHeatTransfer.zip

This ZIP file must contain:

 The mesh file (.msh),

 The Case file (.cas),
 The Data file (.dat).

The completed assignment should be submitted by email only to the following

🧪 Simulation Case Description:

 Domain: Cube of dimensions 1 m × 1 m × 1 m.

 Fluid: Air (ideal gas).
 Boundary Conditions:
o One wall maintained at 350 K (hot),
o Opposite wall maintained at 300 K (cold),
o The remaining four walls are adiabatic (zero heat flux).
 Simulation Type: Steady-state including conduction and natural convection.
 Physical Models:
o Energy equation activated,
o Gravity enabled in the -Y direction (value: 9.81 m/s²),
o Material: Air selected from the Fluent material database.

🔧 Expected Steps:

1. Create the geometry in Ansys Discovery or SpaceClaim.

2. Generate the mesh (recommended maximum element size: 0.05 m).
3. Solver Setup in Fluent:
o Model: 3D, steady, pressure-based,
o Enable energy equation,
o Select air as the material,
o Apply the specified thermal boundary conditions,
o Activate gravity.
4. Perform hybrid initialization.
5. Run the simulation with a minimum of 500 iterations.
6. Generate and save:
o A 2D temperature contour plot,
o A temperature profile along a vertical plane.

📅 Submission Deadline: Before Friday
