of their cottage. She was hungry and wet. He let Jane enter the cottage to rest and
he wanted to know her story.

It was said by Jane to Mr. St. John when he told her about the church and the
school he served in. Jane accepted the job of teaching in the girls' school.
7-" When I came to the church at Morton vale two years ago, there was
no school for the poor children. I started one for the boys and now I
have found a building for the school for the girls. Near the new school
there is a small cottage for the teacher. She will receive a salary of
thirty pounds per year and there will be a servant to do the
housework."
