Master/Officer in charge of the navigational watch shall use this checklist for guidance during Master/Pilot
information exchange and navigation with pilot on board. Duly filled forms shall be filed in File No.306.
 as appropriate Ship Pilot
 Immediately on arrival on bridge, has the pilot been informed of ship’s heading, speed, engine
 
setting and draft?
 Has the pilot been briefed about the bridge team of which the pilot himself is a member during
 
pilotage?
 Has a completed pilot card been handed over to the pilot?  
 Has the pilot been informed of the location of lifesaving appliances provided for his use?  
 Have following details of the proposed passage plan been discussed with the pilot and agreed with
 
the Master?
– Radio communications and reporting requirements  
– Bridge watch and crew stand-by arrangements  
– Deployment and use of tugs  
– Berthing/anchoring arrangements  
– Expected traffic during transit  
– Pilot change over arrangements, if any  
– Fender requirements  
– Particular areas of shallow water that the vessel might encounter with a reduced UKC  
– Expected tide or current features which may affect the vessel’s ETA  
– Any changes in port regulations regarding communications or navigational operations  
– Problems on route or in berthing due to present or projected weather conditions  
– Any specialised traffic known to be engaged on route towards the berth e.g. dredging operations
 
etc.
– Assuming no traffic congestion, points on route where speed reductions planned and subsequent
 
ETA at destination
 Have following information of ECDIS onboard exchanged with pilot?  
– Primary means of navigation on board: ECDIS  
– Back up procedure in use: ECDIS/Paper Chart  
– Type, Make & Model of ECDIS: ___________________________________________  
– ENC & updates available & applied for the port & approaches: ___________________  
– Any local warning held onboard: ___________________________________________  
– Any nonstandard configuration of the ECDIS: Yes / No  
– Safety Alerts: Depth: Shallow Contour: _______ m, Safety Contour _______ m,  

 Are the progress of the ship and the execution of orders being monitored continuously by the Master
 
and/or the officer on watch?
 Have the responsibilities amongst the bridge team for the pilotage been defined and are they clearly
 
understood?
 Has the language to be used on the bridge between the ship, the pilot and the shore, been agreed?  
 Are the Engine Room and the ship’s crew being regularly briefed on the progress of the ship during
 
the pilotage?
 Are the correct lights, flags and shapes being displayed?  
 Are there any navigational warnings, affecting the ship’s proposed track/route?  
