B.0 Design of End Cross Girder at Temporary Lifting Condition / Jack up condition
The end cross girder is designed as a continuous deep beam for bearing replacement condition, continuous over knife
supports at the jack locations. The CL of jacks are taken to be 1061 mm from the CL of main girder. The reaction of main
girder due to (DL+SIDL) are applied as load at the girder location as shown below.
1.06m 2.12m
Since the jack will be operated from single console, hence the loads from bearings will be equally divided into all jeacks.
L= 1.5 D= 1.700 m
L/D = 0.882 < 1 for continuous beam
Lever arm Z = 0.5L = 0.75 m
2
Required Top Ast for max support M =M/(σst*Z) =130.000/(0.75*1.33*200) = 65.16 cm
33% overstressing considered for temporary condition
2
Minimum Area of steel required = 0.2/100*1.7*0.6*10000 = 20.40 cm
Details of zone 1
Depth of zone is 0.2D = 340 mm
Fraction of reinforcement to be provided in this zone = 0.230
2
Ast to be provided in this zone = 14.97 cm
Provide 25 dia bars, Nos of bars required = 3.1 No of bar provided = 5
2
Hence Ast Provided = 24.55 cm OK
Details of zone 2

0.3D = 510 mm
2
Ast to be provided in this zone = 50.20 cm This reinforcement is added with side face reinf.
Provide 25 dia bars, Nos of bars required =11

Total Ast Provided for Hogging Moment = 78.55 cm
Provide 4 nos 25 f + 4 nos 20 f + 2 nos 20 f
Provided Ast = 38.5 cm2
Hanging reinforcement
It is considered 50% of Longitudinal reaction will hang
Force for Hanging reinforcement of Outer Girder = 60.00 t
Force for Hanging reinforcement of Inner Girder = 55.00 t
At Outer GirderLocation
Required Ast as hanging R/F =60.0*100/1.33*200 = 22.6 cm2

Hence no hoop reinforcement is required as per design. But from detailing point of view
hoop reinforcement has been provided. CEB-FIP model code has been used to calculate
the increase in permissible bearing stress.
