Tripper Drive Braking Calculation 2

The document outlines the calculations for the braking system of a tripper drive, including the load due to belt tension and wind loading. It details the motor brake specifications, required brake torque, and safety factors for both the motor and rail clamps. Additionally, it includes safety cage calculations to prevent the tripper car from overturning, providing material properties and safety factors for the components involved.

TRIPPER DRIVE BRAKING CALCULATION.

Brake must be designed to resist the most adverse load on the tripper :
1. Maximum load due to belt tension
2. Wind loading on tripper.

1. Drive Braking Calculation

 Load due to Belt Tension (Belt tension from Helix)

 Wind Loading on Tripper.

\
 Braking Loading Summary.

2. Motor Brake Calculation

Tripper motor drive used 2 (two) Sumitomo BBB4 Gearmotor

LHYM8-4D165-Y2-B-123 complete with brake with the specifications :
Input Motor : 5.5 KW/ 380 V/ 50Hz/ 3 Phase, 4 Poles, 1450 rpm.
Exact Ratio : 123
Output Speed : 11.8 rpm @ 1450 rpm
Output Torque : 4090 Nm
Service Factor : 1.74

Calculation of standard Break torque for 1 unit motor from the table bellow;

From the Table, for 5.5 KW motors used Brake Type FB-8B.
Standard Torque = 55 N.m.
Output Brake Torque = Standard Torque x Exact Ratio
= 55 x 123
= 6,765 N.m
= 6.765 KN.m
Total Output Brake Torque = 2 x 6.765 KN.m = 13.53 KN.m

Required Brake Torque = 5.207 KN. m

Safety Factor = 13.53 / 5.207 = 2.6

If 1 of 2 Brake motors fail, then tripper still will not moved.

3. Rail Clamp Calculation

For More safety in operation, tripper car equipped with rail clamp wich function to
hold the tripper car in position. Rail Clamp work after tripper car stopped by the
brakes on the gear motor
Rail Clamp type = BSZ 50/III-60x40
Holding force = 50 KN
Rail Type = 60 x 40 mm

Required Braking Load = 26.03 KN.

Holding Force = 50 KN.

Safety Factor = 50 / 26.03 = 1.92

The number of Rail clamps is affected by the requested holding force.

4. Safety Cage Calculation

To keep the tripper car is not overturned, tripper car is equipped with a safety cage
