Lesson Health Service Providers
1 and Health Care Plan

What is It
Healthcare requires more than just specialists. Healthcare needs a team
to function properly, a team of healthcare providers and assistants. No matter
how basic or dangerous the situation is, you will need at least two people on
your healthcare team. When we go to the hospital, our focus is the doctor and
we hardly think about the nurses, personnel, and the assistant.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

I. Health professionals
Individuals who are licensed to practice medicine and other allied health
programs. They provide essential services that promote health, prevent
diseases, and deliver healthcare services to individuals, families, and
communities. An example of a health professional is a physician.
Physician- records the medical history of an individual, provides diagnosis,
performs medical examinations, and prescribes medications.
Different kinds of physicians based on their area of specialization.
Medical Specialist

● Anesthesiologist – administration of anesthesia like in surgery

● Cardiologist - a doctor with special training in finding, treating,
and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
● Dermatologist - the medical expert you should consult if you
have any significant problem with your skin.
● Dermatology - the science that is concerned with the diagnosis
and treatment of diseases of skin, hair, and nails. ●
Gastroenterologist - the branch of medicine focused on the

the female reproductive system (vagina, uterus, and ovaries)
and the breast.

eyes and visual system in the prevention of eye injury and
disease.

line and root canal therapy.

treatment of the dental problems of children from infancy to young
adulthood.
● Periodontist – specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing
diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth (gums) and the supporting structure
(bone) of the teeth.

Mental health
practitioners

● Psychologist – general care of mental and emotional wellness. ●

Psychiatrist – specialist in mental and emotional
problems.

Allied health professional – a trained healthcare provider who practices

under the supervision of a physician or healthcare provider.

● Nurse – general care of patients in the hospital.
