The Fifth Dimension in Special Relativity

This paper proposes a redefinition of mass as a fifth dimension within special relativity, incorporating Planck-scale corrections to spacetime geometry. It introduces modified Lorentz transformations that unify spacetime and mass dynamics, predicting observable deviations at high energies. The study suggests experimental validations through particle accelerators and gravitational wave detectors while addressing challenges such as Planck-scale sensitivity.

1 Abstract
2 This paper redefines mass as a fifth dimension within the framework
3 of special relativity, introducing Planck-scale corrections to spacetime
4 geometry. We derive modified Lorentz transformations that unify
5 spacetime and mass dynamics, predicting testable deviations at high
6 energies. Experimental validations via particle accelerators and grav-
7 itational wave detectors are proposed.

8 1 Introduction
9 Einstein’s special relativity (SR) unified space and time but left mass as
10 an external parameter. Recent theories suggest embedding mass as a fifth
11 dimension to reconcile quantum gravity with SR (??). Our work extends
12 this by redefining points as Planck-scale circles, yielding:
s
χ2P L

v2
X1 = vT1 1 − 2 1 − 2 , (1)
c χ1
13 where χP L = cTpl . This modifies Lorentz contraction and introduces a
14 mass limit.

15 2 Methodology
16 2.1 Redefining the Point
17 A geometric point becomes a circle with radius r = cTpl . The spacetime-mass
18 interval for a light wave in frame S1 is:

G21
X12 + Y12 + Z12 − C12 T12 − 4
M12 = 0. (2)

19 2.2 Generalized Lorentz Transformations

20 For frames S1 and S2 moving at velocity v:

22 where γ = s 1

23 3 Results
24 3.1 Experimental Predictions

25 • LHC Particle Masses: Deviations in top quark masses at s = 14
26 TeV (Fig. 1).

27 • Gravitational Waves: Modified waveforms due to fifth-dimensional

28 coupling (?).

29 4 Discussion
30 Our model bridges quantum gravity and SR but faces challenges:

31 • Planck-scale sensitivity (10−35 m) exceeds current detectors.

32 • Competition with string theory’s extra dimensions (?).

33 5 Conclusion
34 Mass as a fifth dimension offers a geometric unification framework. Future
35 work includes LHC data analysis and quantum gravity ties.
