Role of the Cultural Committee in educational institutions

Cultural activities are sports or activities which contribute to or enhance the historical or social
development, appreciation of members of the public. It is training refinement of the intellect
interest, tastes and skill of a person.

The Cultural committee is responsible to organise and promote all intra and inter collegiate cultural
events in the college to bring out the hidden talents of the students in performing arts. To Plan and
make a Schedule of cultural events during the academic year and to encourage students to
participate. The main objective of Cultural Committee is to encourage students to showcase their
creativity and shed their inhibitions. Outcome of Cultural Committee is to create a suitable
atmosphere to work as a team and refresh themselves from their routine.

Cultural committee is responsible to organize and promote all intra and inter collegiate cultural
events in the college to bring out the hidden talents of the students in performing arts.

Goals and Objectives:

Find hidden talent among the students and provide them a platform to showcase it.

Provoke students to develop arts and skills.

Encourage and Guide Students to achieve success in the cultural activities outside the college
campus.

Activities that the Cultural Committee can conduct:

1. Various competitions in Fine arts like Rangoli, Collage, Wealth out of waste, Mehendi
designing, Cartooning, Poster making, Photography, Drawing and Painting etc. are organized
during college youth festival.
2. Competitions in Literary forms such as Pick and Speak, Elocution, Debate, Poetry recitation,
Storytelling are organized during annual socials.
3. ‘Days Presentation’ is a group event wherein students form groups and present their view/
skits on days observed during youth festival.
4. Stage performance activities like Folk Dance, Solo and Group Dance, Plays and Skits, Mime,
Mono-acting etc.

How to organise Cultural Activities/fests?

Conducting cultural activities effectively involves several key steps:

1. Planning and Preparation: Decide on the goals and objectives of the activity, choose relevant
cultural themes, and plan the logistics. This may involve selecting appropriate dates, venues,
and resources. Decide on the budget.
2. Involvement: Engage various stakeholders, including students, teachers, third party suppliers
and contractors, and experts for judging the events, to participate and contribute. This can
enhance the diversity and authenticity of the experience.
3. Educational Integration: Incorporate educational content that aligns with the cultural activity
to provide a learning context. This could include background information on the highlighted
culture, historical significance, and relevant social and current issues.
4. Execution: Focus on inclusivity and interaction in executing the activity. Ensure that
participants have an active role, whether through performance, discussion and planning,
organising or off-stage support.
5. Reflection and Feedback: After the activity, provide a platform for participants to reflect on
their experiences and offer feedback. This helps in understanding the impact of the activity
and planning future events.

Advantages of conducting cultural fests in colleges

It helps the academic institutions to bring together the students from various social backgrounds
and cultures. This helps in creating a multi-cultural environment in the college.

Secondly, the college festivals promote innovative and novel ideas and allow students to share their
knowledge and ideas.

Thirdly, attending these festivals gives information on the different areas of study. Sports events,
quizzes, seminars, music and dance are the part of most of the college fests.

Technical Fests and their importance

Technical fests include popular events like Application Development, Robotics, Coding, Hacking and
Web Designing.

Technical fests can include various kinds of competitive programmes to promote and encourage the
technical aspects of learning of students in accordance with the curriculum. These festivals can help
the student to interact with other students of the colleges of the city of the same field. This helps to
build a strong and effective circle of engineering students who can acquire the ability to
communicate effectively and efficiently. It also helps students to learn to collaborate and work with
the team.

The students learning coding and involved in web designing explore the community of aspiring
engineers in a better way and this assists the students to develop a sense of dedication and
commitment to achieve their goals, later in life. An informal setting of a festival is the most
interesting and light way to learn and explore ideas. Students can then form focussed group.
