Learning Formulating My Classroom

Task 7 Rules

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

 Why are classroom rules important?

Classroom rules are important as they guide students in
maintaining proper behavior and attitude within the classroom.
Learners are expected to practice and consistently follow these rules,
especially when they are regularly reminded of them. This repetition
helps students understand that these rules must be observed at all
times. Establishing clear rules also contributes to a safe and conducive
learning environment. One where every learner is encouraged to grow
and feel respected, and where the teacher can conduct discussions
without interruptions.

 What are the important things to consider in formulating

classroom rules?
When formulating classroom rules, it is important to consider the
learners who will be expected to follow them. These rules should be
known and understood by everyone, especially the basic classroom
etiquette. They must be clear, concise, and easy to understand, with
core values such as respect and responsibility emphasized as key
principles to be upheld within the classroom. Rules should be
enforceable to ensure consistent adherence. Most importantly, they
should not only be presented on screens or briefly introduced before
discussions but also be strategically posted in visible areas of the
classroom for better reinforcement and visibility.

 What classroom rules are you going to formulate to ensure

fairness, respect and care among the students?
As mentioned in the previous pages, fairness, respect, and care
among students begin with the implementation of basic classroom rule,
such as raising a hand before speaking, asking permission before
leaving the room, listening when someone is talking, using appropriate
language, following instructions, and avoiding cellphone use and eating

49
inside the classroom. By following these rules, students develop a
sense of discipline that not only shapes their own behavior and attitude
but also influences how they contribute to maintaining the discipline of
the entire class.

 What must teacher do to motivate learners to work productively

and to make them responsible for their own learning?
Classroom rules may serve as one of the teacher’s strategies to
keep students engaged and accountable for their own learning.
However, it is equally important for teachers to understand who their
learners are and what types of activities they enjoy or struggle with. By
doing so, teachers can apply differentiated learning approaches, such
as interactive games, self-discovery tasks, or guided practice. In
connection with classroom rules, involving students in the creation of
these rules encourages a sense of ownership and responsibility in their
learning journey. Additionally, providing constructive feedback supports
students in producing better outcomes and gaining deeper
understanding for future discussions and activities.

Performance Task 3

Formulate your CLASSROOM RULES to ensure better classroom discipline.

CLASSROOM RULES
I often revise my classroom rules once a week to tailor it to my lesson,
but always includes here the basic classroom rules. Here are only some of my
classroom rules which I find effective to students:

S – Show Respect: Respect your teachers, classmates, and school property.

Listen when others are speaking and use kind words.
M – Make Good Choices: Follow classroom rules, be responsible, and think
before you act.
I – Involve Yourself: Stay engaged in lessons, participate in discussions, and put
forth your best effort in all activities.
L – Listen and Learn: Pay attention to instructions, follow directions, and actively
listen to others to enhance your learning experience.
E – Engage Others: Support your classmates, celebrate their achievements, and
create a friendly, supportive classroom.
1. Words of kindness, soft and low,
Respectful voices, help us grow. (This addresses respectful communication)

2. Eyes on learning, ears that hear,

Focus sharp, and knowledge near. (This addresses attentive participation)

3. Hands held high, a turn to speak,

(Clap, Clap, Stamp!)

Voice Up, Minds Engage! Respect All, Turn the Page!
(Clap, Clap, Stamp!)
Phones Away, Focus Strong! On Time, Where We Belong!
(Clap, Clap, Stamp!)
Work Hard, Give Your Best! Clean Space, Put to the Test!
(Clap, Clap, Stamp!)
Help Each Other, Lend a Hand! Learning's Goal, Across the
Land!
(Clap, Clap, Stamp!)
Positive Vibes, Let Them Flow! Senior High, Let's Grow, Let's GO!

53
Performance Task 4

Complete the matrix and cite positive and non-violent ways of solving the
following misdemeanors in class.
Positive and Non-Violent Ways of Solving
Situations Misdemeanor

Littering in class Since, I let them pick their bits of dirt under
their chairs before proceeding to the lesson,
they will be constantly reminded of it. I will not
focus on mentioning the names of these
students rather, I’ll reintroduce again the
classroom rules.
Unruly behavior of learners I’ll acknowledge positive behavior of students
inside the classroom, which in return
encourages other students misbehaving to do
the same and behave appropriately.
Non-submission of In giving assignments, I always make sure that
assignments before the start of the class in our next
meeting, I will collect it. This will push the
students to do their assignments every time I
give them one.
Tardiness Aside from getting admission slips, one
strategy that I did that is effective is by letting
them present a song, give an energizer or a
dance in front of the class before seating.
Absences It is strictly required that they will get their
admission slips to the POD, and before they
will take their test or exam, they have to pay
their obligations in the POD office (floor wax).
Too much talking A close palm hand signal is effective to other
classes, especially Grade 12 Pythagoras, but
to the other section which has a greater
number of students and boys tend to create
the loudest noise (Bentham), if they observed
that I am not talking and casually looking at
them, waiting for their noises to die down, they
will remind each other to keep quiet.
Lacks focus/attention Aside from calling their attention through
recitation, I also do the “Focus Pocus Clap”. It
is where I assigned different claps in each
rows/column, then if I mention their
column/rows they would perform the assigned

54
clap. Additionally, those who do not pay
attention will answer a question.

Figures 1. 8: Classroom Rules

What is the importance of these rules to students’ learning?

Classroom rules are not just guidelines for students to follow, but also
values that shape them into better individuals and responsible citizens in their
communities. Furthermore, these rules guide students' behavior and attitude
throughout their learning journey, ensuring they listen, participate, and act
appropriately. This is especially true when there are consequences, such as
demerits or recitations, for not adhering to the rules. Most importantly, these
rules help prevent disruptions during discussions, allowing students to remain
focused on the lesson.
