Below are some FAQs that should help outline who we are, what we do, and how we

go about that (regarding days and times, see point number 5).

1. What do we aim to do?

The Wits Investment Society (in partnership with the Wits Consulting Club) aims to
bridge skill and competency gaps that exist between University and the working
worlds of Finance and Consulting.

Our vision is to develop well-informed leaders in Finance and Consulting. Through

collaborating with Institutions and Entrepreneurs in Financial and Consulting spaces,
our mission is to enhance Wits Students' careers by providing them with the
necessary skills, opportunities, and information needed to transition from academia
into the corporate arena, through events, podcasts, and newsletters.

2. What degree do I need to be studying in order to join?

Keeping in step with the degree-agnostic nature of entry-level Finance and
Consulting roles, we are open to students from all fields of study. Feel free to join if
you have an interest in a career in Finance and/or Consulting, or have no idea what
the two entail and would like to find out.

3. What's the value proposition?

By joining the Wits Investment Society, you are able to leverage the collective
productivity, experience, and partnerships of our committee in sourcing career
information and opportunities. University is a fast-paced environment, and our
undergraduate degrees are quite short - and unfortunately, most students reach their
final year oblivious to the different firms and career opportunities that await them
post-graduation. Furthermore, some opportunities are only advertised through
Societies like ours, and the search for career opportunities can be time-consuming.

4. How would I know that joining this club would be beneficial in the working
environment?
If you end up being part of our committee, your experience of working in a team may
be a big benefit in the working environment. In general, I can attest to the benefits of
joining the Wits Investment Society in your journey to the working environment, there
are so many gaps that arise from solely depending on our classroom curricula for
career insights.

5. Are there any mandatory time commitments?

There are no mandatory time commitments, so no pressure. All events are optional,
so the time commitment is solely dependent on the member. There also isn't a
regimented timetable for events, they are hosted on a rolling basis throughout the
year.

6. Are there opportunities to network with entities outside of the University,

such as potential future employers?
Yes there are, and please note that these are at the discretion of each firm - i.e.
some networking events are invite-only through applications made to the firm, while
others are open to all students.

7. Do you have a WhatsApp Group?

Yes we do, click here to join. Also have a look through our Linktree for our other
social accounts.
