An investigation was carried out to find out if germinating pea seeds give off
heat energy during cellular respiration.

The procedure followed was:


120 pea seeds were divided into 3 groups of 40 seeds and then treated as
followed.
• Flask A: 40 seeds were soaked in water at 18OC for 24 hours, then
placed in a sterilised vacuum flask

• Flask B: 40 seeds were soaked in water at 18OC for 24 hours, boiled,


cooled then placed in a sterilised vacuum flask
• Flask C: 40 seeds were soaked in water at 18OC for 24 hours, washed
with mild disinfectant, then placed in a sterilised vacuum flask
