General Preparation
Unpack/verify the condition and completeness of shipment. For discrepancies, use the table below.
Product or part description Observation Action
Discuss any specific questions or issues with the customer prior to starting.
Discuss any configuration options with the customer prior to starting
Check for required service note applicability and firmware updates if connecting to instruments.
Upgrades only – Ensure with customer that instrument control settings, data, methods etc have been
properly saved or archived prior to starting any installation procedures.
Verify line voltage, voltage settings, and power cord.
Setup Heater-Circulator
Ensure the heater-circulator has been installed beneath the back of the vessel plate with the power
outlet facing the right and the legs inserted into the holes in the base plate.
Ensure the isolators on the legs of the heater-circulator are properly positioned to eliminate
vibration from the heater-circulator.
Ensure the two stainless steel clamps have been installed to properly secure the tubing to the heater-
circulator.
Check the remaining connections of the heater-circulator tubing on each side of the water bath.
Connect the six-pin cable to the rear of the heater-circulator and the other end into the position
marked BATH HEATER on the rear panel of the dissolution apparatus.
Power on Heater-Circulator
Turn on the power to the heater-circulator using the switch located on the unit.
Ensure the water flow through the heater-circulator begins. To release air trapped in the pump or
heater cartridge, refer to the "PRIMING THE PUMP" sticker on the left side of the heater-circulator.
Ensure no leaks are present at any of the tubing connections.
Install Vessels
If necessary, raise the drive unit to the fully raised position.
Carefully install the dissolution vessels in the vessel plate.
For the standard vessel, rotate the two clips for each position over the rim of the vessel to secure it
in place.
If necessary, place the TruAlign blank vessel position covers on the vessel plate openings at Position
7 and Position 8. Rotate the two clips for each position over the cover to secure it in place.
Install Accessory
Section NOT applicable.
Locate the appropriate accessories from the following list to be configured with the Agilent 708-DS
being qualified: evaporation covers, Dosage Delivery Modules (DDMs) or Cover Aligners, receptor
shafts, paddle shafts, basket shafts, shaft locking collars.
Raise the drive unit to its fully raised position.
If applicable, insert a receptor shaft (spin on / off shafts only) into each spindle location.
Slide an evaporation cover over the shafts to be installed and insert the shaft into each spindle
location.
Place a shaft locking collar on the top of each shaft and slide it down until it rests on top of the drive
unit.
For all applicable positions, insert a DDM or Cover Aligner into the DDM Alignment Shaft hanging
from the underside of the drive unit.
For all applicable positions, attach the DDM or Cover Aligner to the evaporation cover by aligning the
notch with the locking pin on the cover and pushing until fully seated.
Ensure that the sampling port of the evaporation cover is aligned properly with the sample manifold
probes, if applicable.
While pressing Ok to clear the Date and Time window, begin the calibrated timer.
Verify the clock setting relative to the calibrated timer after a minimum of one hour and record the
data in the table beneath above.
Press Finish, then Main to return to the Main screen.
Place a check mark beneath any the options installed on the 708-DS in the table below.
AutoDrive AutoSampling AutoTemp DDM EVT Probe Printer
If applicable, place the external vessel temp (EVT) probe and a calibrated thermometer in the vessel
at Position 1.
Once the temperatures have equilibrated, record the values in the table above for the EVT Probe and
calibrated thermometer.
If this system is not equipped with an EVT probe, check the box for N/A for the EVT probe.
Ensure the motor shuts off when the drive has reached its maximum height.
Press and hold the down arrow icon, located in the Drive box, to move the drive unit to a fully
lowered position.
Ensure the motor shuts off when the drive has reached its operating position.
Double-tap the up arrow icon, located in the Drive box, to move the drive unit to a fully raised
position automatically.
Final Spin at 250 RPM begins after the third time point and
continues for 2 minutes.
Sample manifold lowers to measure final vessel temperatures.
