What patterns do you see? Which region (or regions) of the world does Japan seem to
be focusing on in its trade endeavors?
COMESA (or the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) is a prominent
regional economic bloc comprising 21 member states that has been established to
foster economic integration across all over south and eastern africa. This expansion
has yielded significant strides in regional integration such as free trade areas
(initiated on October 31, 2000), and Custom Unions that help organize tariffs and
other commercial policies.(Launched on June 7, 2009). The opportunities that were
yielded on COMESA have been drastic. Such as:
1, Access to a diverse market with memberships. This provides entry to a
combined market with 500 million more customers.
2. The facilitation of COMESA has also greatly reduced the burden for trade, by
having lower transaction costs, and simplifying market entry strategies.
Overall, COMESA is a progressive integration effort, and the relationships created by
this Market across african countries. This creates a conducive environment for
businesses to expand upon, leveraging developments and leading to increased
competitiveness with sustainable growth through all of these regions.
