Assignment 1
Principles of Communication systems (BEC402)
Semester: 4th Section: A Issue: 17/3/2025 Due: 21/3/2025 Sl. Question BLT CO No. 1 Define standard form of amplitude modulation, derive its equation L2 CO1 and explain each term. Derive the Spectral equation of AM wave and hence draw and explain the AM spectrum for Single tone message signal. 2 Explain in detail the working of switching modulator with the help of L2 CO1 necessary diagrams, waveforms and derivations. 3 An audio frequency signal, 5 cos ( 2 π 103 t ) ,is used to amplitude L3 CO1
modulate a carrier signal100 cos ( 2 π 106 t ), Assume modulation index
of 0.4. Find i) Sideband frequencies ii) Bandwidth required iii) Total transmitted power iv) Efficiency. 4 Describe DSBSC modulation scheme. Express DSBSC in time and L2 CO1 frequency domain. 5 With necessary diagrams, waveforms and equations explain the L2 CO1 working of Ring modulator 6 A carrier signal 93.5 MHz is FM modulated with a message signal of L3 CO2 bandwidth 5kHz. The maximum deviation is found to be 40kHz, calculate a) Carrier Swing b) Lowest and highest frequency component in FM c) Modulation index d) Bandwidth of FM output. 7 Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Frequency Modulation. L2 CO2 8 The input to an FM receiver has an S/N of 2.8. The modulating L3 CO2 frequency is 1.5 kHz. The maximum permitted deviation is 4 kHz. What are (a) the frequency deviation caused by the noise and (b) the improved output S/N? 9 With a neat block diagram explain the operation of a Super- L2 CO2 heterodyne receiver. 10 Explain voltage control oscillator frequency modulator with neat L2 CO2 diagram.
