INTRODUCTION

◦•●◉◦••••◦◉●•◦

This chapter will discuss structural organization, principles of good

organization, management concepts, and management structures.

Organization, by definition, is an organized body of people with a particular

purpose, especially a business, society, association, and many more. Focusing on
the realm of construction and engineering, organization plays a pivotal role in it.
It provides a clean and just structure of professionals and stakeholders involved
in the project construction and implementation.

Management of construction projects requires knowledge of modern

management as well as an understanding of the construction and design phases.
Construction projects have particular targets and constraints, such as a time
frame for completion. While the relevant technology, institutional arrangements,
or processes will be different, the management of such projects has much in
common with the management of similar types of projects in other specialty or
technology domains such as aerospace, pharmaceutical, and energy
developments.

Furthermore, having a proper construction project organization can give

support to having a just and smooth flow of works and responsiblities, allowing
them to have an effective and succesful outcome as an organized team.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

◦•●◉◦••••◦◉●•◦

This unit emphasizes the organization in a construction project. Organizing a

construction project involves arranging and coordinating different aspects of the
project for smooth execution.

This unit also tackled the structural organization, the principles of Good
Organization , the management concepts, and the Management Structures
wherein this encompasses forming the project team, outlining roles and duties,
setting up organizational frameworks, handling contracts and communication,
maintaining quality and safety standards, efficiently allocating resources, and
supervising project management activities.

Effective organization plays a crucial role in reaching project goals,

upholding quality benchmarks, sticking to timelines and financial limits, and
meeting client and stakeholder needs.

Furthermore, there are types of organized structure that bring all people
involve in the project into unison. And these are Line organization, line and staff
organization, and committee organization. Meanwhile, the principles of good
organization are principle of good objective, analysis, simplicity, functionalism,
departmentalism, centralization of authority and responsibility, and limited span
of control.

Moreover, a good project manager is a coach, a good motivator, a good

communicator, appraise employees fairly, manages time better, and a good
decision maker.

And lastly, for the management structures, we have four involved in a project
or contracting parties, and they are the owner, designer, contractor, and project
manager.
BODY

◦•●◉◦••••◦◉●•◦

Management of construction projects necessitates knowledge of current

management as well as an awareness of the design and construction processes.
Construction projects have defined goals and limits, such as a time frame for
completion. While the essential technology, institutional arrangements, or
processes will differ, the administration of such initiatives is quite similar to
those of comparable sorts of projects in other specialty or technological sectors
such as aerospace, pharmaceutical, and energy research.

Construction project organization is a complicated framework that includes

a variety of roles and duties to assure the proper design, execution, and
completion of a building project. Construction projects are complex efforts that
require meticulous planning, organization, and execution. The success of these
initiatives is dependent not only on the technical components but also on the
organizational methods used throughout the project's lifecycle. Effective project
organization ensures that resources are used efficiently, deadlines are fulfilled,
and quality standards are upheld. A well-organized team is required to navigate
the complexities of construction, properly manage resources, and achieve project
goals.

Project Manager

The project manager coordinates various aspects, such as budgeting,

scheduling, and resource allocation. This individual is in charge of
overseeing the entire project, from start to finish. Their leadership ensures
that the project stays on track, adheres to timelines, and meets quality
standards.

Architects and Engineers

Architects and engineers work closely with the project management.

Architects contribute to the project by creating the building with both
aesthetic and practical considerations. Engineers, on the other hand, focus
on technical elements such as structural integrity, safety, and regulatory
compliance. Collaboration between architects and engineers is critical for
balancing design and utility.

Contractors and subcontractors

Contractors and subcontractors are essential components of building

project management. Contractors are in charge of carrying out the building
work, whereas subcontractors may be contracted for specialty duties like
electrical or plumbing work. Effective cooperation among these institutions
is critical to avoiding delays and ensuring smooth progress.

Laborers

Laborers are the backbone of any construction project, translating plans

into reality via actual labor. Skilled and unskilled laborers contribute to the
various building phases, collaborating with the project manager and
contractors to meet project objectives.

Communication and collaboration

A construction project organization relies heavily on communication and

teamwork. Regular meetings, progress updates, and feedback methods all
contribute to maintaining transparency and immediately addressing any
concerns that arise. Modern project management tools and technologies
improve communication and streamline operations.

Project financing and budget management

The finance team inside the organization oversees crucial issues such as
project financing and budget management. They ensure that funds are
properly allocated, expenses are managed, and financial objectives are met.

Safety and compliance experts

Safety and compliance experts are critical in ensuring that the building site
follows safety regulations and environmental requirements. Their job grows in
importance as the building industry prioritizes safety.
A good project manager is a Coach that leads in formulating plans and goals,
properly identifies and uses talents of various players, administering training and
serves a fair evaluator of performance; a Good Motivator or good supervisor are
often characterized as persons who have the ability to “motivate people”; a Good
Communicator wherein the supervisor is able to articulate conversation that,
makes a complex technical speech easy for layman to understand, Appraise
Employees Fairly in which considerable evidence suggest that people do
welcome fair and even unflattering comments if made in a total context of
honesty, empathy, and trust; Manages Time Better wherein the supervisor who
is making optimum use of his time (1) employs a program of “management by
objectives” (2) plans his workday systematically and (3) know how and when to
delegate work to other; and lastly a Good Decision Maker wherein the project
manager can formulate great decision leading to their own success.

Additionally, under the management structures, there are four involved in a

project or contracting parties, first is the Owner or the one that owns the project
being built and also the one that specifies the technical performance standards of
the completed project; secondly, the Designer who provides project design
computations, drawings and specifications that meet the needs of the owner;
thirdly, the Contractor who prepares accurate and realistic construction
schedules, set up an organized effective site organization, prepare an accurate
estimate of the project cost and establish an effective project monitoring and
control system; and lastly, the Project Manager who ensures that the project is
completed within the time, budget constraints.
