General Well Being

General well-being is a construct that reflects the harmonious functioning of physical and psychological aspects, encompassing cognitive and emotional evaluations of life. Research indicates that negative affect is linked to neuroticism while positive affect is associated with extraversion, highlighting that positive emotions are independent dimensions of mental health. Both heritable and environmental factors significantly contribute to overall well-being.

General well-being as a construct refers to the harmonious functioning of the

physical as well as psychological aspects of the personality, giving satisfaction to

the self and benefit to the society. General Well-Being is defined as encompassing
people's cognitive and effective evaluations of their lives other terms have been
used, interchangeably with the general well-being term, included health and quality
of life. In detail, it assesses self-representations of intrapersonal affective or
emotional states reflecting a sense of subjective well-being or distress and thus
captures what we could call a subjective perception of well-being.

Previous research lends support to the view that the negative affect
component of general well-being is strongly associated with neuroticism and that
positive affect component has a similar association with extraversion. This
research also supports the view that positive emotions - central components of
well-being - are not merely the opposite of negative emotions, but are independent
dimensions of mental health that can, and should be fostered. Although a
substantial proportion of the variance in well-being can be attributed to heritable
factors, environmental factors play an equally if not more important role.
