Barbie Strapless Pencil Dress

(Free Crochet Pattern)

This is a formal dress Barbie can wear to any party. The silhouette is very flattering and is
actually inspired from something a celebrity wore on a local talk show here in the
Philippines.
This hub is a free crochet pattern for a Barbie Strapless Pencil Dress. I specifically designed

Ridged Chevron Stitch

Whenever I work on a new design, I always try to incorporate new stitch patterns before
actually starting the project. For this hub, I chose to use the Ridged Chevron Stitch pattern.
Since I was not familiar with how to increase and decrease with this pattern, I only used it
when I needed even Rounds so there would be no problem.
Here is the stitch pattern for the Ridged Chevron Stitch:
• Make sure your stitches are divisible by 12 before working on the pattern.
• Ch 2, 2 dc into the first st, (work in back loops only for all stitches), *work 1 dc into
each of the next 3 sts, dc2tog twice, 1 dc into each of the next 3 sts, 2 dc into the next st
twice*, repeat from * ending with a 2 dc only once into the last st, turn.

This is how the Ridged Chevron Stitch looks like. The ridges are visible for every two rows of the
pattern. | Source

next 7 dc, sk the next sc, sc in the last 14 sc. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
Sew 2 snaps evenly across the back to close the dress.

Variations
Because I did not want to end up with small strands of thread (in case of any design errors), I
only used 2 colors for this dress. Try changing the colors every few rows to get a different
look and emphasize the chevron pattern.

Barbie Strapless Chevron

Dress (Free Crochet Pattern)
My favorite hobby is crocheting doll clothes. Using what I've learned from reading
existing patterns, I create my own designs for Barbie.

While working on a different project involving chevrons, I got an e-mail requesting a new
Barbie crochet pattern. Since the whole A-line shape does not really suit my Makies doll, I
thought I would hit two birds with one stone by just designing the dress with Barbie as my
model.

How to Make the Chevron Pattern

As seen previously from Barbie Strapless Pencil Dress, I have used a Chevron pattern before,
but I was not able to increase and decrease with the Ridged Chevron Stitch pattern. This
technique uses chain spaces to start the chevron pattern which gives the skirt more volume.
So when starting, you want to have an odd number of chains to make sure you have a center
for the chevron and an even number of stitches for its sides.
Here is the stitch pattern for the Chevron stitch:
• When starting the row, ch 1, sl st in the first st, (ch an odd number of sts, sk 1 st, sl st in
the next st) across, turn.
• When doing an even row, ch 1, (sk 1 st, sc in the next sts until you reach the middle st,
work 3 sc in the middle st, sc in the next sts until you reach the final st of the chevron, sk
1 st) across, turn.
• When doing an increasing row, repeat the even row, but work 5 sc in the middle st
instead of 3.

• Make sure you place even rows below increasing rows to have a
better flow for the skirt.
