THE NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL MODEL

A. Statement of the Problem:

This design project aims to design a Primary School or Elementary School Model
for the rural areas of the Philippines, that continues to learn to live with the pandemic
that affected the nation. We also aim to raise the facility design that can host the
basic needs of an elementary school; but through Architecture and place making, we
hope to create a unique and symbolic identity or approach in our primary school
models. PAGE 1 Considerations shall be (but not limited to) - a feasible design that
can accommodate the direct participation of the local community, - constructability
that may be achievable through sustainable and self-constructing technologies that
does not require heavy vehicles and complex equipment - can be a prototype in-
terms of planning; meaning, this can be applied to a different site that follows contour
or site sizes - integrated into a rural / urban setting

B. Site Description and Lot Plan

A. The student examinee is free to locate their primary school model in a rural and
urban site as long as the following are considered:

i. Site shall not be bigger than 1000 sqm

ii. Site shall be flat and no contours
iii. Site shall only have one access (15mts road at frontage)

C. Spatial Requirements
The basic space requirements needed of the project are the following, but not limited
to:
1. A (1) One-Storey building school model (that may serve as a typical layout
for possible future expansions)
a. With 6 Classrooms, with an average number of forty (40) students
per classroom.
b. Teacher Room (for 12 Teachers) / Administrative office
c. Laboratories, that are flexible for different / new activities for student
learning
d. Canteen / Mess Hall (with kitchen and preparation room)
e. Sick room, or Clinic
f. Toilets (Male, Female & Student PWD)
g. Library
h. Open spaces

D. Design/Drawing Requirements (For Scaling purposes, do provide bar scale)

1. Design Concept/Narrative: (is what the designer feels and thinks of

when they connect to their design. It is what the user or visitor moving
through the finished structure and spaces feels, thinks and experiences on
their journey) A brief concept to be provided

2. Drawings - The nature of the design problem in terms of planning the

school model is flexible, the students/examinees are encouraged to provide
diagrams (axonometric, orthographic, flow, etc.) to further explain the
principles in their zoning and planning. (Refer to list of spaces above.)

i. Site Development Plan and Configurations Given that the project

needs to be able to be flexible in terms of configurations in different sites,
students shall be able to come up with at least 2 solutions in terms of site
planning and zoning processes (Ex. 1 approach with similar elements
applied to a site with a ‘square’ shape and a ‘rectangular’ shape)
 Consider that the site is accessible through a major access road
at the site’s frontage
 Another approach can show a comparison on how the layout will
be affected on an urban site, and on a rural site
 Site layout of the different zones, areas and buildings to be
considered in school planning

ii. Floor plan – Typical building layouts, and configurations (ACS)

iii. Elevation / Section – One (1) elevation / One (1)- Section

iv. Exterior Perspective; at least 1 street level or man’s eye view (showing
the façade or elevation details of the structure)

E. Medium: Use A2 size (16.5” x 23.4” or 420mm x 594mm) White Paper with
your Name and Student Number at the upper right hand corner of all your papers.
Use Black pen for plans, elevation and section. You can also use any colored pen for
rendering works for site development plan.
