Introduction: Alberta’s oil sands deposits are Canada’s largest


source of oil, with reserves estimated at between 1.7 trillion and 2.5
trillion barrels. It may be the biggest petroleum deposit anywhere in the
world! You will be writing a news report that outlines the information
you have discovered about Alberta’s oil sands and then you will state you
opinion based on the evidence you found.

Assignment: Use the Internet (Google Scholar, company websites,


and Government Websites) to research the oil sand deposits in Canada.
Imagine you are a newspaper reporter who has been given the task of
writing an article that explains the oil sands to readers and your own
point of view. Use the following questions as a guide.

Include an alphabetical Works Cited page of your sources (at least


four). Be careful when looking at sources on this controversial topic.

Make sure you have as much unbiased information as you can get, and
look at a balance of viewpoints—not just pro- or con.
