WELDING PROCESS
BASE METALS
Base Metal: 1 Carbon Steel, M-1 or P-1, Group 1 or 2 to M-1 or P-1, Group 1 or 2
Thickness Range: 1/8 in [3 mm] through 3/4 in [19 mm] for groove welds, and
1/8 in [3 mm] minimum for fillet welds
Diameter: Groove Welds: 1 in [25 mm] 0.0. minimum
Fillet Welds: 3/4 in [19 mm] O.D. minimum
Coating: Uncoated
FILLER METALS
JOINT DESIGNS
POSITIONS
1 M and P numbers for base metal and F and A numbers for filler metal and weld metal, respectively, are as detailed in
AWS 82.1/82.1 M or ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX.
2 Preheat and interpass temperatures must be sufficient to prevent crack formation. Temperatures above the minimum
shown may be required for base metals with specified carbon content greater than 0.25%, for highly restrained welds, or
to meet the requirements of the fabrication document(s).

TECHNIQUE
In the name of the Company stated above, I accept full responsibility for the application of this SWPS for use with:
GROOVE WELDS: See Joints 1 through 4. In addition, joints having groove designs resulting from end
preparations conforming with ASM E 816.25, Buttwelding Ends; and prequalified joint details for com
plete joint penetration groove joints permitted by AWS 01 .1/01.1 M, Structural Welding Code-Steel;
AWS 015.1/015.1 M, Railroad Welding Specification for Cars and Locomotives; and typical joint details
in Annex 8 of AWS 014.4/014.4M, Specification for the Design of Welded Joints in Machinery and
Equipment are also allowable for application with this SWPS.
