Model AIC
Audio Input Card (500-035300 / S24235-B2-A2)

INTRODUCTION The Model AIC (Audio Input Card) from Siemens

Industry, Inc., is a card that provides 2 external
isolated analog audio inputs to the voice system.
External audio sources: tape recorder, CD player,
tuner, PBX interface (for convenience paging
through the telephone system), and other.

Each input can be configured independently for

different usages via the Zeus tool. Each input can
be controlled automatically via system logic
dependant on its individual configuration or
manually by using the voice control panel. The input
levels can be adjusted manually with push buttons
at the AIC front panel. During the initial power-up
condition, each input is shut off.

The AIC contains two dry contact inputs to activate

the two audio outputs separately.

Features AIC features are as follows:

• Two independent analog audio inputs

• Inputs separately transformer isolated
• Inputs separately supervised for Loss of Signal
• Separate input level adaptation for each input
• Separate level indicator for level adaptation for
each input at front panel
• Separate analog digital converter
• Two external switch inputs to activate the two
audio outputs separately + +

• Control data via CAN protocol
• Digital audio connection via ASI protocol

Compatibility The following minimum revisions of firmware are

required:

OPERATION The AIC contains two audio input circuits. Each input can be adapted
individually to input levels between +15 dBu to -12 dBu. The adapted input
level is indicated at the front panel via 3 LEDs. The inputs are separately
transformer isolated and supervised for presence of audio input signal. This
allows the use of independent audio signal sources with independent ground
sources.

The AIC provides sampling rates with 48 kHz, 24 kHz, 12 kHz and resolution
from 16 bit and 8 bit separately for each input. Reduction of sampling rate
and resolution is only needed in applications with distributed system
architecture where D-NET (external digital bus to connect nodes) is needed.
Centralized voice systems with only one single control panel (no D-NET) will
always have the maximum audio quality: 48 kHz sampling rate, 16 bit
resolution.
Each AIC card occupies one card slot in the CC-5 or CC-2 cardcage. The AIC
indicates its status by diagnostic LEDs.

Controls and Indicators The front panel of the AIC contains the following, as shown in Figure 1:

• One RESET switch

• Eight diagnostic LEDs to indicate the operation of the card
• Two pairs of switches to separately adapt the two audio input levels
• Two pair of three LEDs to indicate the input level adaptation
separately for each input
• One CAN address switch

The reset switch is located on the top of the front panel. Pushing the reset
switch re-initializes the AIC operation.

The diagnostic LEDs follow the reset switch. Their function is defined as
follows:

3 LEDs and 2 switches for each audio input follow the diagnostic LEDs and
their function is defined as follows.

A two-position switch at the bottom of the front panel is used to set the CAN
network address of the AIC.

Pre-Installation For setting Loss of Signal supervision, see Figure 2.

Setting the CAN Network Address Switch:

Set the two-digit CAN network address for the AIC using the two-position
switch located near the bottom of the front panel. (Refer to figure 1 for the
location of the switch.) The address selected at the front panel of the AIC
must be the same as the address selected in the Zeus programming tool. To
increment each digit of the address, press the "+" button above the desired
digit; to decrement each digit, press the "-" button below the desired digit.
Allowable addresses are from 01 to 99 (leading zeros must be used).

WIRING

Remove ELECTRICAL POWER prior to working on equipment.

All connections are power limited unless stated otherwise.

All field wiring of the AIC is connected to the terminal blocks of the CC-5/CC-
2 card cage slot in which it is installed. The screw terminals can
accommodate one 12-18 AWG (2,5mm2) or two 16-18 AWG (1,5mm2).

To connect external wiring Lift the white cover on the terminal block.

Loosen the screw of the terminal by turning it counterclockwise.

Insert the wire into the side of the terminal block.

Tighten the screw of the terminal block by turning it clockwise.

Figure 3: Wiring the AIC to a VNT-Building Configuration

INSTALLATION The AIC plugs perpendicularly into one slot in the CC-5 card-cage via two 96-
pin DIN connectors and can occupy any slot in the card cage.

The AIC must not be installed directly adjacent to a ZAC-40 or ZAM-180.

There must be at least one module or empty space in a CC-5/CC-2 card cage
between the AIC and the ZAC-40 or ZAM-180.

Figure 4: Installing the AIC

Insert the AIC card into the card guides rightside up (lettering on the front
panel is legible). Slide the card in until the card edge connectors contact the
receptacles on the motherboard. Verify that the DIN connectors of the card
and the card-cage aligned properly. The card can only plug in one direction to
the card cage, if it does not align, DO NOT FORCE the card.

Place thumbs on the front panel adjacent to the captive screws and gently
apply even pressure on the card until the connectors seat in the receptacles
on the motherboard.

Secure with the captive screws.

Power up the system and verify that the AIC power LED turns ON.

You are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to your plants, systems,
machines and networks which should only be connected to an enterprise network
or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only when
appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in
place. Additionally, Siemens’ guidance on appropriate security measures should be
taken into account. For additional information, please contact your Siemens sales

Siemens’ portfolio undergoes continuous development to make it more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that updates are applied as soon as they are
available and that the latest versions are used. Use of versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase your exposure to
cyber threats. Siemens strongly recommends to comply with security advisories on
the latest security threats, patches and other related measures, published, among
others, under https://www.siemens.com/cert/en/cert-security-advisories.htm.
