Notes:
1. Firmware version 5.3.0 or later and Fabric Manager 5.3 are recommended.
2. Firmware version 5.3.0 is the latest FICON supported version.
3. This SAN product is not intended to attach to public telecom networks.
4. SAN Fibre Channel Switch 2109 Model M48 Data Sheet (pdf).
5. The M48 FC Routing Blade is supported with Firmware version 5.1.0b or later.
6. The 48 port Blade is supported with Firmware version 5.2.0a or later.
7. Additional Interoperability information and usage notes for the M48 FC Routing Blade can
be found at ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/san/brcd/2005R18.pdf
8. Both tape and disk attached to the same HBA are not recommended. .
9. Concurrent Code load is supported with Fabric OS v5.0.1 or later
10. IBM System i Servers Support only 4Gb SFP for 2109-M48 4Gb Switch. (2Gb and 1Gb
SFPs are not supported)
11. FICON limitations
o FICON and zLinux is not supported on the 48 port blade (FC 3448), iSCSI blade
(FC 3460), 10Gbps blade (FC 3470).
o The use of IPSec or Tape Pipelining with FC3450 is not supported
o With the introduction of Fabric OS v5.0.1b release and FICON Support the 2109
M48 and 2005 B32, the aptPolicy routing policy for FICON must be configured for
Port-based routing. Other switches within that environment may remain with
exchange based routing. Any Brocade supported FICON platforms can be
cascaded without issue with FICON devices attached for backwards compatibility
For all other chassis configurations modes (1-4), the default routing policy is port-
based path selection (paths are chosen based on ingress port and destination
only). This cannot be changed. This also includes user-configured paths. Note:
Chassis configuration mode 1 is supported for FICON. Chassis configuration
modes 2-4 are not supported for FICON configuration
12. iSCSI blade (FC3460) is supported with the following initiators
o Microsoft iSCSI initiator 2.03
o RedHat EL 4 default initiator
o SourceForge.Net initiator 2.6.10-4.0.2
o AIX 5.3 ML4
o For additional information please see iSCSI Best Practices for M48 Blade

DS4000 Connectivity
1 We do not recommend attaching the IBM DS4000 on the same Intel server as the
TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server. Both devices may be attached to the same
switch.

AVOID DYNAMIC ZONING CHANGES
As a recommendation, we advise that one avoid making zoning changes to your fabric while data
is being transferred, if possible. There may be some risk in job interruption, especially with serial
data during the Registered State Change Notifications (RSCN's) that are produced as a result of
the zone change. Some HBA's are more prone to an interruption than others.
