1. Introduction
This internship report details my experience during the road extension project from 4-lane
to 8-lane. It highlights my learnings in site management, material testing, road design, and
construction practices.

2. Project Overview
The project involved upgrading an existing 4-lane road into an 8-lane road to accommodate
increasing traffic and enhance airport connectivity. Scope of work included earthwork,
subgrade preparation, GSB, WMM, bituminous layers, box culverts, drainage works, and
utility shifting.

3. Internship Objectives
• To gain exposure to real-time civil construction activities.
• To understand road widening procedures.
• To observe field tests like FDD, plate load test, and concrete cube tests.
• To learn about drawings, bar bending schedules, and reinforcement work.

4. Work Performed
• Assisted in measuring and marking for road widening.
• Observed excavation, compaction, and embankment formation.
• Participated in quality control tests for subgrade and base layers.
• Reviewed reinforcement drawings for culverts and duct chambers.

5. Observations & Learnings

• Understood the sequence of road construction layers.
• Gained clarity on mix design and layer thickness control.
• Learned how drawings are implemented on-site.
• Understood coordination between different agencies (electrical, drainage, roadworks).

6. Challenges Faced
• Weather delays affecting compaction quality.
• Coordination gaps during utility shifting.
• Managing traffic during ongoing construction.
7. Conclusion
The internship provided valuable exposure to highway construction and site practices. It
helped bridge theoretical knowledge with practical implementation in civil engineering.

8. Acknowledgement
I would like to thank my college, site engineers, and the project team for their guidance and
support throughout the internship period.
