PORTFOLIO
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Dhriti Madhani
Completing my internship at Harish Gandhi Building Consultants, a renowned firm of architects and planners, has been one of the most
enlightening and transformative experiences of my academic journey so far. As an architecture student, this internship provided me with an
invaluable opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, helping me understand how architectural
concepts and ideas are realized in real-world projects.

During my time with the firm, I gained deep insights into architectural design, project management, and construction detailing. I learned
how the designs we create must not only be aesthetic but also functional, feasible, and compliant with multiple regulations. Understanding
the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) and the intricacies of BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) drawings
was a major part of my learning curve. It enhanced my awareness of how crucial it is to adhere to by-laws and local building codes right from
the inception of a project.

The experience also helped me significantly improve my detailing skills in construction drawings. I realized how meticulous attention to
detail is critical to ensure that the designs we imagine are successfully translated into reality. From the early planning stages to the final
execution on-site, I observed how coordination between different teams, including architects, consultants, engineers, contractors, and
clients, is key to the smooth progress of a project.

One of the most important aspects I explored was liaisoning—an essential part of the architectural field that I previously knew very little
about. Understanding how approvals are sought, how authorities are approached, and how paperwork is navigated gave me a comprehensive
picture of how real-world projects move from concept to completion.

Throughout the internship, I was fortunate to work under the mentorship of Ar. Harish Gandhi and Ar. Vicky Gandhi, whose vast experience
and patient guidance made a profound impact on me. They, along with their incredibly supportive team, were always available to address my
doubts, share their knowledge, and encourage me to think critically and work diligently. Their mentorship not only expanded my technical
knowledge but also strengthened my professional attitude and confidence.

This internship has been a truly enlightening journey, making me much more aware of the realities of architectural practice. It has equipped
me with a stronger foundation that will undoubtedly influence my future projects and especially help me during my thesis in the final year of
architecture. I am deeply grateful for the trust, responsibility, and mentorship I received at Harish Gandhi Building Consultants. This
experience has enriched my academic path and motivated me to strive towards becoming a more capable and responsible architect in the
future.
