NOTES
1. Each of the sample battery selected in the first stage as per column 2 of Table above will be subjected
to all the class ‘B’ acceptance tests. A battery shall be declared defective if it fails in one or more of the
class ‘B’ tests.

2. If the number of defective sample is zero (C1 at column 5), the lot shall be considered as conforming to
the specified requirements and shall be accepted.

3. If the number of the defective is equal to or greater than C2 (Column 6), the entire lot shall be rejected.

4. If the number of defective is greater than zero (C1 at column 5) but less than C2 (column 6), a further
sampling of the same size (column 3) is done and these second stage samples are subjected to all the class ‘B’
tests as done before.

14
JSS 6140-03 : 2019
(Fifth Revision)

5. If the number of defective in first and second stages combined is less than C3 (Column 7), the lot shall
be accepted. Otherwise, the entire lot shall be rejected.

6. The above sampling plan shall be made applicable only when smooth production flow of the battery
has started and supply of not less than 200 batteries is made or if the firm has supplied the same type of batteries
in bulk (of not less than 200) earlier and the last consignment has been supplied not earlier than one year before
tendering the present lot. For others, the following rate of sampling will be carried out.

Total No. Percentage Decision on Acceptance

of batteries of batteries
to be tested
First 25 100% Acceptance of only those samples which are
conforming to specification.
25 to 200 10% Acceptance of lot if no defect noticed .If defects are
noticed in one or more samples, carry out double
sampling plan of 8 No. each and acceptance limits as
per table given above. (The 10% samples tested may
be taken as first and second stage sampling. If the
number of batteries comes less than 16 the
remaining samples may be taken. If already tested
samples exceed 16, double sampling plan with
13 samples for each stage may be carried out).

9.8.3 Class ‘C’ tests

(On random samples upto a maximum of 1% of the bulk as required by the Quality
Assurance Authority).

The samples after completion of class ‘A’ and ‘B’ tests are subjected to the following tests:
a) Capacity test at &30ºC after charge at &30ºC.

b) Capacity test at +55ºC after charge at +55ºC (Clause 9.10.5.7).

c) Environmental (complete) tests (Clause 9.10.5.18).

9.8.3.1 Criteria for acceptance

Since class ‘C’ tests are time consuming, release of the lot will not await completion of class
‘C tests. However, when failures are noticed, the matter shall be taken up with the
manufacturer for evolving and implementing corrective measure forthwith. The acceptance of
batches tendered after failures in Class ‘C’ tests are noticed, shall be subject to satisfactory
implementation of the corrective measures. The samples on completion of class ‘C’ tests will
be returned to the firm for re-offering and the same if found acceptable in class ‘A’ tests will
be released as part of the bulk as yellow banded (not fit for operational deployment) model.
