Project 01

The project involves identifying an architectural drawing of a building with 10 or fewer stories and estimating the total superstructure load transferred to the footing, including calculations for soil bearing capacity and footing size. A similar analysis is required for a high-rise building with 50 or more stories. The project will be completed in groups of three, with evaluations based on foundation sizing, recommendations, submission materials, and presentations due by May 14.

Project

1. Idetntify an architectural drawing of a building G+10 or less

a. Estimate the total super structure load that must be transfered to the footing (ground)
b. Assume uniform area load distribution of 15kN/m2 floor area
c. Take tributary to each column as the area covered between half the distance to next columns

Tributary area

d. Obtain actual soil bearing capacity data of the site

e. Make a rough estimate of your footing size (assuming an isolated footing at each column)
f. Basd on your rough calculation, which type of footing do you recommend and why?
g. Make a 3D computer model to illusrate the foundation system

2. Repeat (1) for a high-rise building, G+50 or more

Remark :
i. Work in a maximum group of three.
ii. Evaluation :
a. Foundation sizing
b. Recommendation
c. Submission material (paper)
d. Submission (3D model)
e. Presentation
f. Progress evaluated (May 7)
iii. Submission and presentation date :
May 14
