GROUP 2: KING LEAR

Kevin Billedo: King Lear


Nashryll Bisquerra: Gloucester
Julius Mendenilla: Cornwall

Darla Labuguen: Cordelia

Cordelia- Lear’s youngest daughter. She believes that she loves his father no words can
utter while her refusal to flatter him leads to her tragic death.
Regan- Lear’s second daughter. She also joined forces with Goneril to destroy their
father as well as their youngest sister
King Lear- An aged king who was driven by a desire for love and recognition for his
daughters precipitated by his imprudent decision to divide his kingdom through flattery
of announcing how great the love of his daughters they have for him rather than
genuine affection.
Gloucester- a nobleman loyal to king whose rank, earl is below than Duke
- He is considered as adulterer, having fathered a bastard son, Edmund.
Cornwall- wife of Regan
- He works with his wife and sister-in-law Goneril to persuade Lear and Gloucester
France- The king of France who never determined Cordelia’s lack of dowries and
instead accepts her for who she is as an individual
- He also supports his wife and her attempts to save her father from her two
sisters.
Kent-an earl and trusted servant who disguises himself as a peasant in order to
continue serving Lear to protect him from his enemies.

Scene 1: THE DIVISION OF THE KINGDOM


The play will start with sound effects and with simple introductions then proceed…
Curtains will open…
Narrator:
great and powerful king from England who decided to divide his kingdom among his
three (3) daughters expressing his dark purpose. He commanded their soldiers to give
the precious map while thinking how to divide his magnificent kingdom to shake all his
businesses and cares that continuously inherited and blossom.
Meanwhile as the Earl of Gloucester introduces his illegitimate son to the Earl of Kent,
the event proceeded as the King of Britain enters. The division will depend on the
quality of each princess’s declaration of their love to their father.
Close the curtain…
King Lear:
Since we’re now gathered here in our own territory with our interest of the cares of the
state to divest us both of rule. My precious daughters, which of you can say her infinite
love for me that we are now extending the showered bounty leading to merit. Challenge
Goneril, our eldest born give us your epistle message. Goneril and Regan who wanted
to win their father’s side, before delivering their message they first present some singing
and dancing.
Goneril: (Sing first) Dearest king, my love for you has no way to compare.
The richest of your glory beyond no wield can say sharper than eyesight, the space and
freedom
Fancy being valued-rich or rare
No less than life, with grace honor and majesty
The king of all mercy
Child of all father that has found
A love that makes breath poor, and speech unable
Beyond all manner of so much- I love you

King Lear:
Of all these bounties, reach no bounds
From here to this, from cross to line
With shadowy forest & campaigns rick
With flowing rivers & wide-skirted meads
We make thee lady to thine Albany’s issue
Be this perpetual. Give me my message loud and clear
My second daughter, Our dearest Regan
Wife to Cornwall- you may have the floor
Regan: (Dance)
Ears on me
Isn’t same price with metal as my sister
Price me not her worth- deepest heart
Beloved, she finds my deeds of love Having my sense, I profess
Myself an enemy to all other joys

In my own, I found alone to facilitate


Precious square possesses
In your precious highness care- my love is on my way
Curtain closed…

Narrator: King Lear who was furious that his favorite daughter Cordelia wouldn't shower
her praises than her sisters. As the two daughters’ speech came to an end Cordelia
come in front with gratitude with no pretension.

King Lear:
Cordelia my daughter, you may have the floor
Cordelia: Speak not so, pretty pretty sure
My love for you is far richer than my tongue can say

King Lear: Speak again


Cordelia: Nothing, my Lord!
King Lear: Nothing?? Nothing will come out of nothing.
- How dare you! Is this all you have to say, you…you my youngest? My dearest,
have nothing to offer but a mere “I love you”

Cordelia: I am terrified, my heart is not my mouth. My love for you, words is not true.
Narrator: After the tiny message of Cordelia, the King was so disappointed. He decided
to make claims to his paternal care and give to Goneril and Regan one-third each of
them together with their suitors, Dukes of Albany and Cornwall respectively.
Curtain opens…

Scene 2: THE EARL OF THE GLOUCESTER’S CASTLE


Edmund-determined to be recognized as rightful son of Gloucester a trick he persuades
his father this his legitimate son, Edgar is plotting traitorlike event. The trickery of
Edmund led for his brother to flee from Britain and took a disguise of a Bedlam beggar.
This begins the unpresented behaviors of Edmund to join forces with Goneril together
with Regan and later on became courtier of Goneril. As they begin to introduce each
other by also acknowledging the Earl of Kent.

Gloucester:
I have a son sir, by the order of the law some year elder than this, who yet is no dearer
in my account. Through this knave came something saucily to the world before he was
sent for, yet was his mother fair, there was good sport at his making.
Do you know this noble man, Edmund?

Edmund:
no, my lord.

Gloucester:
Lord Kent, remember him hereafter as my honorable friend
Edmund: my services to your Lordship

Curtains closed…

Scene 3: THE BETRAYAL AND TRAGIC DEATHS

Narrator: The greediness of Edmund led to trigger their dark plans in the castle, creating
a huge conflict them especially the welfare of the King.
Kent as one of those who returned from the exile in disguise and wins a place as
servant to Lear. Kent accompanies Lear when in, rage against her criticisms he curses
Goneril after knowing the plans they have for them.
When Lear arrives at Gloucester’s house to find Regan, she spurns him and his
followers namely his devoted companion, the Fool.
Feeling guilty of his poor Cordelia, while feeling despair to his daughters Lear goes mad
at the height of the great storm. He run on the wild health until Gloucester takes them
into a hut of shelter. He then seeks the aid of Kent to get them await to the coast. While
Cordelia is taking a step with a French army to fight for her father against those traitors
particularly her two sisters together with their husbands.

Edmund as a messenger between the two sisters, he persuades Cornwall that his father
is an enemy and in returned to that they punished Gloucester’s seemingly betrayal.
Regan began to pluck his eyes and abandon him.
Regan:
You ungrateful servant! You deserve this! (blood runs out)

Edmund:
Madam, speak nobly proclaim the words in your heart together we shall find we were
truly belonged.
Goneril:
Combine together ‘gains the enemy
For these domestic and particular broils
Are not the question here
Regan:
Let’s now determine the proceedings of this war.
The worse is yet to come

Narrator:
as the war precedes, numerous was killed and everyone was shed in blood.
Meanwhile Cordelia who was imprisoned by her evil sisters, Edmund a villainous
character orders for her execution.
It was occurred in a bleak dimly lit prison cell.
Guard: time’s up woman, prepare yourself.
Cordelia: (being calm and resolute) I am ready, I do not feel relentless (a brief pause
perhaps a moment of silent reflection.
Cordelia: Oh, my dear father, restoration hang
Thy medicine on my lips, and let this kiss
Repair those violent harms that my two sisters
Have in the reverence made.(Provide a red paint to act as a blood for Cordelia’s death)
Guard: enough of your uttering, let us quickly do this
As the guard approaches to seize her, Cordelia’s eyes widen with mix of fear and
acceptance.

Narrator: After Cordelia’s most cruel death, King Lear is utterly in despair and purely
devastated. He enters carrying a lifeless body, crying with immense grief for his
daughter.

King Lear:
With tenderness, ay vaster sorrow
Then that I feel hath harrowed hard at heart. Howl howl howl O world
Oh my dearest daughter, I know what every one knows not
I’ll go to bed and when I wake, I’ll cry out for a draught
Of cold water, that a thirsty soul
May drink and die
Narrator: After he uttered his word, mourning her loss while cursing the world with his
immense grief, King Lear was overwhelmed by sorrow respectively dies of a broken
heart. His death marks the culmination of the play’s tragic events, leaving a pronoun
sense of loss and despair.
The play ends with a somber tone,reflecting on the cruel consequences because of
powe and greediness. The betrayal and fragality of human life while justice is
sometimes not absolutely served.The tragic deaths of Cordelia and King Lear remind
audience that love is not perfect but still endures loyalty and importance of
humility.Though it was too late for them to find out the thruth at least at the end they
have the time to reflect on their actions with the feeling of being regretfull especially
King Lear.
As the bittersweet ending must come to its final chapter, the play concludes with a
sense of resolution and restoration of order. Kent who has been a loyal and important
figure of the story, one of those who shaped the future of the kingdom together with
Edgar( although Edgar was not totally mentioned in the story we portrayed)
Acknowdged the tragic event and destructive nature of unchecked power.

~ Everyone will gather then provide their last epistle of message for theirselves.
