Manual Method Statement

1. Introduction:
The purpose of this Method Statement is to construct and maintain a system ensuring the effective management for (Task)
Service & Installation of Fire Hand Held Equipment as per SANS 1475 Part 1 & 2

The objectives of this safe Method Statement are:


a. To ensure the safe working operation of employees at all times.
b. To ensure no damage to equipment and machinery.
c. To ensure no break in production (down-time due to an accident/ incident).

2. Scope of work:
The scope of works will consist of:
2.1 Methodology
2.2 Preparation
2.3 Checking
2.4 Communicate Risk Assessment and Safe Works Procedure
2.5 PPE to be used

3. Management
3.1 Client and Supervisor to ensure the quality of the finished product.
3.2 Management will ensure that the works carried out is in accordance to this method statement.
3.3 Ensure that all tools are in correct working order before the commencement of the works.

4. Methodology (How task will be done from start to finish)

Check areas for correct extinguisher siting


Check risk suitability
Check for tampering or use
Check for external corrosion and damage
Check correct labelling
Check mass
Check pressure gauge (where applicable)
Check contents level as applicable (where applicable

Checks to be done
Check for internal corrosion and damage (where applicable)
Check internal lining for defects (where applicable)
Check cartridge mass/type/age as applicable (where applicable)
Check diptube and strainer as applicable (where applicable
Check striker mechanism as applicable (where applicable)
Check hose/horn for wear, damage or blockage
Fit new seals/washers
Check safety device (pin)

Delayed suppression, injuries, smoke inhalation, and even loss of life if equipment is not properly maintained and used

6. Safety
 Safety to be observed:
Risk Assessment will be conducted prior to work being carried out and all hazards communicated to the employees
working on the task.
 Daily Safe Task Instruction (DSTI) must be completed before work commence.
 Employees will wear the minimum required PPE such as hard hat, safety shoes, reflective vest, overall, spectacles as
prescribed by our SHE plan. Additional PPE will be indicated as per the RA prior to activity, ear protection etc.
 No work will commence if the respective foreman/supervisor is not present if the foreman / supervisor needs to leave
site a competent person, appointed in writing and signed by the Manager
