Activity Sheet
The learner solves exponential equations and exponential inequalities. M11GM-Ie-f-1

Exponential function is a function of the form f ( x )=b x. b is called the base where b> 0 but
not equal to 1.
Exponential equations an equation which includes a variable in the exponent or an
equation involving exponential expressions.
Exponential inequality, an inequality involving exponential ex-pressions.
The following laws of exponents are helpful in solving exponential equations/inequalities:

1
x =x
0
x =1 ( x m ) ( x n )=x m +n
−1 1 −n 1
x = x = n
n
( x m ) =x m∙ n
x x

To solve exponential equations and inequalities.

1. Write both sides of the equation or inequality as powers of the same base.
2. Equate the exponents.
3. Collect like terms
4. Combine similar terms
5. Check

3. 4 2 x +6=64 2 x−4
4. 162 x−3 =8
5. 32 x− 4=35 x+8
6. 4 x+3=25
7. 2 ( 9 x−3) =162
8. 6 2 x+1=6 3 x−2
9. 4 x+3 >82 x−3
10. 53 x+2=625
