Tips:

This Instructions Manual introduces installation and operation, maintenance instructions and warnings of switch. It indicates the

potential hazards associated with unacceptable operation and switch operating.

1.2 Safety Instructions

During operation stage, some parts of the switch are in SF6 of dangerous voltage and air pressure.

Pure sulfur hexafluoride gas (SF6) is colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic and non combustible gas. When the inhaled air carries

sufficient oxygen, SF6 is harmless to human body. SF6 is a greenhouse gas, and direct emission of SF6 gas into the environment should be

avoided. SF6 gas is heavier than air. When large quantity of SF6 leaks, the air will be squeezed out, and the risk of suffocation is present

due to air shortage in the closed section.

The staff must be fully familiar with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair procedures and relevant precautions

stated in this Manual.

The Users of Product must be responsible for the safety rules prevailing in their respective countries and the instructions on

measures to be taken in case of possible accidents, such as posting signs.

In addition to considering the safety rules and operating regulations prevailing in their respective countries, the following

instructions, precautions and warnings need to be paid attention to.

Switch installation, operation and maintenance and accessories (Protective clothing, manual operation tools, warning signs,

distribution box, flashlight tools, fire extinguishers, etc.) required for general safety must be obviously placed and carefully kept at

designated places, and their completeness and good condition shall be checked regularly, including complete set of installation and

Instructions Manual.

The maintenance intervals and the provisions for repair and replacement as previously described should be followed.

Detailed warning instructions describing hazardous work are covered in relevant sections of the Instructions Manual, which

relevant texts are highlighted by borders, bold-type letters, or other methods.

5. Structure and Working Principle

5.1 Structure and Working Principle of Circuit Breaker
Th Circuit Breaker for Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear belongs to HV switchgear with SF6 gas as arc extinguishing and

insulating medium. The Circuit Breaker adopts aluminum alloy tank structure and is of outdoor design. The three phases share one

spring operating mechanism, which features center arrangement, three-phase linkage, novel and exquisite appearance. The Circuit

Breaker uses SF6 gas as insulation and arc extinguishing medium. Since the self-energy arc extinguishing principle is adopted and the

optimal design is made in the Circuit Breaker motion system, the mechanical efficiency is effectively improved and the operating power

is minimized.

5.1.1 The Circuit Breaker consists of three phases installed on the common frame, and the three phases are mechanically connected

to one other through the transmission device. The three phases are operated by one spring operating mechanism CT30 mounted on the

same frame.

5.1.2 Each phase of the Circuit Breaker is an independent tank, and each phase of the three-phase air chamber is interconnected by
independent density relay or pipeline.

5.1.3 The density meter of live contact is equipped.

The density meter is equipped with temperature compensation system to indicate the pressure at 20℃. When the ambient

temperature changes to cause the pressure change of SF6 gas, the Controller will not act. Only when SF6 gas leakage results in

pressure change of gas, the Controller will send alarm and locking signal.

When the gas pressure drops to 0.62MPa, the gas replenishment alarm signal will be sent.

When the gas pressure drops to 0.60MPa, the gas locking signal is sent and the Circuit Breaker is disabled from acting. The User needs

to connect the locking signal to the protection relay and start the "low pressure locking Circuit Breaker operation" function.

9
5.1.4 The Circuit Breaker mechanism box is equipped with temperature and humidity Controller and electric Heater. When the

temperature drops to below 5℃ or the humidity is higher than 85%, the Heater is powered on automatically. When the temperature

rises to above 10℃ or the humidity is lower than 80%, the Heater will be powered off automatically (The starting temperature or

humidity of the Heater equipment can also be customized according to the User's needs, which shall be specified when ordering.).

5.1.5 The operating principle of the Circuit Breaker is based on the arc extinguishing mechanism: The pressure difference

"automatically" generated by heat energy of the arc itself causes the flow of SF6 gas to extinguish the arc. The closing spring of the

operating mechanism provides kinetic energy for closing the Circuit Breaker, and the opening spring of the Circuit Breaker provides

kinetic energy for the opening.

! Note

When the pressure of the air chamber drops and the low air pressure alarm signal is sent, the corresponding air chamber of the

equipment shall be replenished in time, and the possible causes of low air pressure shall be investigated.

5.2 Arc Extinguishing Principle of Circuit breaker

When the Circuit Breaker receives the opening command, the rigid moving parts composed of cylinder, moving arc contact and pull rod

move downward under the action of opening spring. During movement, the static main contact finger is separated from the moving main

contact (i.e. cylinder), the current is transferred to the two arc contacts that are still closed, and then the arc contacts are separated to form an

arc.

When breaking the short-circuit current, as the breaking current is large, the arc energy between the arc contacts is large, and the hot gas

flow in the arc area flows into the thermal expansion chamber for heat exchange in the thermal expansion chamber to form low-temperature

and high-pressure gas. At this point, the check valve is closed because the pressure of thermal expansion chamber is greater than that of

compressor chamber. When the current crosses zero, the high-pressure gas in the thermal expansion chamber blows to between open

contacts to extinguish the arc. During the opening process, the air pressure in the compressor chamber is compressed at the beginning, but

when a certain air pressure value is attained, the elastic pressure relief valve at the bottom is opened to compress and deflate at the same time,

so that the mechanism does not need to overcome more air pressure reaction force, thus greatly reducing the operating power (See Fig. 2b).

spring
Figure 2 Arc Extinguishing Principle

When breaking a small current (Usually below several thousand amps), the pressure generated in the thermal expansion chamber is

small due to the small arc energy. At this point, the pressure in the compressor chamber is higher than that in the thermal expansion chamber,

the check valve is opened, and the compressed gas is blown to the open contacts. When the current crosses zero, these gases with certain

pressure blow to the open contacts to extinguish the arc (See Fig. 2C).

! Warning

Pay attention to the dangerous voltage when breaking. When close to the live part, it may suffer burns and electric shock

through the action of arc.

Under the action of arc, gas decomposition products and particulate dust will be formed. The decomposition products of SF6 are

toxic, which may cause irritation of skin, eyes and respiratory mucosa, nausea, dizziness and pulmonary edema during contact and

when inhaled.

5.3 CT Spring Operating Mechanism

5.3.1 Main purpose and performance of the Product
The mechanism has two modes of energy storage: Electric energy storage and manual energy storage. The opening and closing

operation includes two types: Remote control and local opening and closing electric operation and manual operation.

The mechanism can carry out slow opening and slow closing operation with the assistance of special tooling. The manual energy

storage is realized by 17mm hexagon socket, extension rod, ratchet wrench and other tools; Fix the sleeve to the hexagon of the motor

conversion bevel gear of the spring mechanism, connect the extension rod and ratchet wrench at the same time, and rotate

clockwise.(see Table 5)

Tips

The above operations are only emergency operations in the event of an accidental power failure of the power supply circuit of

the mechanism, and operations are prohibited when the product is running

12
The manual slow-opening and slow-closing operation can be carried out with the help of a special slow-opening and slow-closing

tooling. Manual energy storage uses a 30mm ratchet wrench, a slow-opening and slow-closing tooling, bearings and shaft pins, etc. One

end of the tooling is connected to the lower crank arm and the other end of the mechanism. Connect to the tooling plate at the

auxiliary switch of the mechanism, and set the ratchet wrench to realize the manual slow opening and slow closing operation, as shown

in Table 6.

Table 6 manual slow opening and slow closing

Operating steps Graphical representation Introduction

Prepare tools such as 30mm ratchet wrench, slow opening

and slowing closing tooling, bearings and shaft pins

As shown in the figure on the left, install the slow open and

slow close tooling on the mechanism, rotate the 30mm

ratchet wrench clockwise to complete the slow close

operation, adjust the tightening direction of the ratchet

wrench, and rotate counterclockwise to complete the slow

split operation.
2
In the case of slow opening and closing operation, the

indicator ball of the mechanism should be observed when

the closing position is in place. After the closing is in place,

readjust the direction of the ratchet wrench to open. After

the opening is in place, the tooling is in a state of no force,

that is, the opening is in place.

! Warning

As shown in the figure below (see Figure 3), the plate with the indicator ball installed on the front of the mechanism is not a

tooling plate for manual slow opening and closing. If manual slow opening and closing is performed here, the mechanism will be

damaged!

13
5.3.2 Structure and working principle of spring operating mechanism
See Fig. 4 for the cross section of mechanism structure and mechanism box. It is mainly composed of mechanism frame, opening

(closing) brake spring, energy storage motor, buffer, opening (closing) brake electromagnet, cam, ratchet, large (small) crank arm,

opening (closing) brake holding stopper, piston rod, shaft, pin and other parts, and realizes three-phase mechanical linkage through

mechanical transmission. The closing operation of the Circuit Breaker is carried out by the closing spring of the mechanism energy

storage. After closing, the opening spring is compressed. During opening operation, the opening spring is fully released to complete the

opening process. It can be achieved by either remote electric control or local manual control. The electrical control is arranged as an

independent unit, and the auxiliary switch and travel switch can provide 24 pairs contacts for use by the Circuit Breaker. In order to

meet the requirements for outdoor installation, the mechanism box is made of stainless steel and installed with anti-rust screws, and

the interface is sealed with excellent sealing rings. The most prominent features of the mechanism are: Advanced and reasonable

design ideas, simple structure, reliable performance, fewer operation maintenance and low operation noise.

5.3.4 Energy storage of closing spring (See Fig. 6)

When the spring mechanism leaves the factory, after the assembly with the mechanism and the Circuit Breaker and the closing

operation of the mechanism are completed, the closing spring 3-5 is in release state (Fig. 3), and the pawl shaft 3-17 is connected with

the motor through the bevel gear. After the Circuit Breaker is closed in place, the motor is switched on to start energy storage for the

closing spring.

Operation steps: During energy storage, the motor drives the pawl shaft 3-17 to rotate counterclockwise, and the two pawls 3-16

on the eccentric pawl shaft 3-17 alternately push the ratchet wheel 3-2 in the transmission of the pawl shaft to rotate the ratchet wheel

counterclockwise and drive the pull rod to compress the closing spring 3-5 for energy storage. When the closing spring is compressed in

place, the energy storage shaft 3-4 is applied with counterclockwise rotation torque by the closing spring 3-5. This torque is locked by

the energy storage holding stopper 3-6 through pin B to complete the energy storage of the closing spring.

5.3.5 Opening operation (See Fig. 5)

The spring mechanism is in the closing position, and both the opening spring 3-3 and closing spring 3-5 have stored energy. The

small crank arm 3-14 and the large crank arm 3-18 are subjected to the counterclockwise torque of the opening spring 3-3, which is

locked by the opening holding stopper 3-13 and the opening stopper 3-12.

Operation steps: After receiving the opening signal, the coil of the opening electromagnet 3-10 is charged, the moving iron core of

the opening electromagnet is pulled in, the action of the iron core 3-11 is started, and the opening guide rod is driven to impulse the

opening stopper 3-12. The opening stopper 3-12 rotates clockwise to release the opening holding pawl 3-13. The opening holding pawl

15
rotates clockwise and releases the pin A. The crank arms 3-14 and 3-18 rotate counterclockwise driven by the opening spring 3-3, and

the crank arm 3-18 quickly separates the dynamic and static contacts of the arc extinguishing chamber of the Circuit Breaker through

the connecting rod and other transmission parts, and the Circuit Breaker is opened. Meanwhile, the crank arm 3-14 presses the opening

holding stopper 3-13 so that the mechanism is in the opening state.

Under the stored energy of the mechanism spring, if emergency operation is required, you can directly tap the button on the

opening electromagnet to open the circuit breaker. The opening button on the electromagnet is shown in Figure 8.

Fig.8 The opening button on the electromagnet

5.3.6 Closing operation (See Fig. 7)

The spring mechanism is in the opening position, and the closing spring 3-5 has stored energy. Since the center line of the closing

spring does not coincide with the meridional center line of the energy storage shaft, the energy storage shaft 3-4 sustains the

counterclockwise torque of the closing spring 3-5 connected to the ratchet 3-2, which is locked by the energy storage holding stopper

3-6 and the closing stopper 3-7.

Operation steps: After receiving the closing signal, the closing electromagnet 3-8 is charged, and the moving iron core of the

closing electromagnet is pulled in to drive the opening guide rod to impulse the stopper 3-9 and impulse the closing stopper 3-7. The

closing stopper 3-7 rotates clockwise and releases the energy storage holding stopper 3-6 at the same time. The energy storage holding

stopper 3-6 rotates counterclockwise to release pin B, the ratchet 3-2 rotates counterclockwise under the action of the closing spring

force and drives the ratchet shaft 3-4 to rotate, so that the cam 3-1 pushes the crank arm 3-14 to rotate clockwise, and drives the crank

arm 3-18 on the crank arm shaft 3-15 to rotate clockwise, and compresses the opening spring 3-3 to store energy. The crank arm 3-18

drives the pull rod to quickly close the Circuit Breaker Meanwhile, the opening spring 3-3 is compressed to store energy ready for

opening operation. After the closing operation is completed, the motor stores energy for the closing spring again, the mechanism

restores to the state as shown in Fig. 3-b, and pin A is re-locked by the opening holding stopper 3-13.

Under the stored energy of the mechanism spring, if emergency operation is required, you can directly tap the button on the

closing electromagnet to close the circuit breaker. The closing button on the electromagnet is shown in Figure 9.

5.3.7 Automatic Reclosing
The closing energy storage state of mechanism is as shown in Fig. 6 and gives the re-closing signal. The opening spring releases

energy to open the Circuit Breaker, and the energy-stored closing spring releases energy to close the Circuit Breaker. After closing, the

opening spring is compressed to store energy, which can drive the Circuit Breaker to re-open.

5.3.8 Commissioning after connection with Circuit Breaker

After connecting with the Circuit Breaker, the cam clearance is checked according to Fig. 10. The clearance and stroke of opening

electromagnet are checked according to Fig. 11: Check the clearance and stroke of closing electromagnet according to Fig. 12. The

mechanical characteristic test can be conducted only after it is confirmed to be qualified.

5.4 Structure and Working Principle of Isolating/Earthing Switch

The Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear can be equipped with isolating/earthing switch on line side and on the bus side. The

isolating switch is installed in the spherical metal tank above the Circuit Breaker and belongs to a three-position switch. Its electric operating

mechanism is installed on Edge phase cover plate and drives the three-phase knife switch through the pull rod. The earthing switch can be

located on the circuit-breaker side (For tie cell) or on the line side (For incoming and outgoing line bay). The main components of the line

isolating/earthing switch are shown in Fig. 13.

5.5 Structure and Working Principle of Operating Mechanism for Isolating/Earthing Switch
5.5.1 General
The three-position mechanism (See Fig. 14) is used to control the operation of the three-phase isolating/earthing switch in driving

the moving contact to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise for a certain angle to realize the line closing, opening and earthing closing

operations.

18
In case of emergency, the operating crank can be used for manual operation. Shaking to the indicating signage of indicating ball

arrows means that the closing or opening has been in place.

Fig. 14 Three-position Mechanism

5.5.2 Manual operation
The mechanism can be manually opened and closed with the help of special tooling. Manual opening and closing use tools such as

extension rod and ratchet wrench, open the cover plate of the manual hole of the mechanism, and extend the extension rod into the

mechanism to connect the ratchet wrench with the square drive shaft. The switch can be opened and closed by manual rotation

according to the instructions on the mechanism, see Table 8.

19
5.5.3 Electric operation and interlocking
The electric operating mechanism of the three-position switch can be operated electrically through the local centralized control

box button or remote control signal, both of which can be switched over and interlocked with each other through the change-over

switch.

Through the electrical interlocking of the control circuit, the isolating/earthing switch is allowed to act only when "(1) opening

position of the Circuit Breaker, and (2) the manual switch is disconnected" are true at the same time. In addition, the User can add other

interlocking conditions between the "external interlocking terminals" of the control circuit as required.

For the earthing switch on the line side, the external interlocking can also be realized through line PT secondary voltage or other

conditions in addition to the above interlocking conditions.

5.6 Fast Earthing Switch (FES)

The FES (See Fig. 15) has the ability to close the short-circuit current. It is often arranged on the line side of the incoming and

outgoing line bay on a project. The moving contact of fault earthing switch is made of pure copper plus alloy materials, and the

operating mechanism adopts electric spring mechanism.

The three-phase moving contacts of the FES are respectively arranged in the three-phase shell, independent with each other.

When the moving contact of the FES is in closing state under the drive of the electric spring mechanism, the moving contact is

inserted into the static contact, and the conductor connected with the static contact is connected with the earthing grid through

electrical connection. When the moving contact is in opening state under the drive of the electric spring mechanism, the moving

contact is operated to the opening position, and an obvious open contact is pulled open between the static contact and the moving

contact.

The FES is equipped with an electric spring mechanism, which drives the moving contact through the connecting rod to realize

three-phase mechanical linkage.

Confirm that the interlocking conditions are satisfied by manual opening and closing operation of the FES. Open the mechanism

operation cover, toggle the manual operation interlocking board to expose the square operation hole. At this point, the electrical

operation is closed by interlocking, and the electrical operation is impossible. Insert the operating lever and use the operating handle to

operate in direction as indicated by the arrow on the mechanism. The opening and closing indicators will not change synchronously

during the operation process (The operation before the change-over is the process of spring energy storage, and the operating torque is

larger than that of the earthing switch). When operated in place, an impact sound indicating release of the spring can be heard.

5.7.1 Manual operation
The mechanism can be operated manually with the help of special manual tooling for energy storage switching. In manual

operation, the ratchet wrench, tooling rod and other tools are used to open the cover plate of the mechanism's hand crank hole, insert

the extension rod into the mechanism and connect the ratchet wrench with the square drive shaft, and rotate according to the direction

indicated on the mechanism to complete the switching operation of the quick ground switch, as shown in Table 9.

Tips:When the fast ground switch is in the opening state, the mechanism indicates that the ball leaks the green "O" letter (for

foreign customers or some domestic customers), or the green "fen" Chinese character (for domestic customers).
When the fast ground switch is in the closing state, the mechanism indicates that the ball leaks the red "I" letter (for foreign customers

or some domestic customers), or the red "he" Chinese character (for domestic customers).

5.7.2 Electric operation and interlocking

The electric spring mechanism (See Fig. 16) is used to control the operation of the FES and realize the energy storage of the spring

through motor and mechanical transmission parts. When the spring moves to a specific position, the spring energy is quickly released to

drive the extension and contraction movement of the moving contact to realize the closing and opening operation of the earthing

switch.

In case of emergency, the operating crank can be used for Manual operation. Shaking to the tripping position means that the

closing or opening has been in place, and the opening and closing state of the mechanism is judged in combination with the opening

21
and closing indication on the mechanism.

5.7.3 Electric operation and interlocking
The electric spring operating mechanism of the FES can be operated electrically through the local centralized control box button

or remote control signal, both of which can be switched over through the switch-over switch and interlocked with each other.

Through the electrical interlocking of the control circuit, the earthing switch is allowed to act only when "(1) the Circuit Breaker is at

the opening position, and (2) the manual switch are disconnected" are true at the same time. In addition, the User can add other

interlocking conditions between the "external interlocking terminals" of the control circuit as required.

For the earthing switch on the line side, the external interlocking can also be realized through line PT secondary voltage or other

conditions in addition to the above interlocking conditions.

5.9 Current Transformer

The Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear adopts feed-through dry insulated Current Transformer with structural composition

as shown in Fig. 20. The primary circuit is the conductive rod in the compound insulating bushing or porcelain sleeve.

The Current Transformer is generally installed under the bushing on the line side. If there are special requirements, it can also be

installed on the bus side or both sides, but the installation requirements must be specified when ordering. Double bus arrangement is

generally only installed on the line side.

As limited by the installation height, a maximum of 4 iron cores can be installed on one side of each phase. If the transformation

ratio is large, the accuracy is low and the load is small, the number of iron cores can also be increased to 5~6.

 Store SF6 cylinders indoors or in temporary buildings, not directly exposed to sunlight, and not near places with heat sources

Tips

If the equipment cannot be assembled immediately after delivery, it is recommended to consider effective protection, rainproof

and moisture-proof measures when storing the equipment and its accessories. In order to avoid the influence of moisture on the

ground, the storage place shall be well-vented.

If the storage time of equipment is longer than three months, the anti-condensation heater in the centralized control cabinet

and mechanism box must be turned on during storage.

7 Installation
7.1 General
The work on field installation of the Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear mainly includes the following items:

Open the package and check whether the equipment and accessories are in good condition. If any abnormality is found, please notify

Chint Electric immediately. Do not move or touch the equipment without clear advice to prevent accidents. If the equipment is in

good condition and meets the requirements of Chint Electric factory documents, follow the following steps.

 HGIS itself is transported with SF6 gas with small positive pressure (0.02 ~ 0.05Mpa). After opening the package, confirm

whether there is gas with small positive pressure in the equipment.

 Check that the circuit breaker is not stored and the switch is in the opening position

 Check the foundation and embedded anchor bolt (Note: If the anchor bolt adopt the secondary pouring method, the

reserved hole shall be checked.);

25
 Lift steel structure support;

 Rotate the Circuit Breaker A and C outward at the specified angle (See Fig.18);

 Lift the Circuit Breaker;

 Install the transmission rod of Circuit Breaker and isolating switch;

 Lay and connect control cables and CT cables;

 Connect the earthing wire;

 Fill with SF6 gas (Note: The cable terminal products need to be connected with cable head, then treated by nitrogen

filling-vacuum pumping and finally filled with SF6 gas.)

Tips

Unless specially required under the supply Agreement, the lifting sling and accessories required for lifting are beyond the scope

of supply of the product.

7.2 Lift Steel Structure Support

See Fig. 22.

The centralized control box is installed on the assembled support and lifted integrally to the qualified foundation (With a total

weight of about 450kg). After the foundation is tightened, check that the upper mounting plates of the two legs should be on the same

horizontal plane; Otherwise, it is necessary to take measures (Such as adding adjusting nuts under the leg base plate) for leveling.

After the installation and adjustment of the support, the gap between the base plate of leg and the foundation shall be filled.

During the lifting stage, care shall be exercised on the position of bus and centralized control box to avoid wrong direction.

7.3 Lift the Three-phase Circuit Breaker

The three-phase Circuit Breaker is installed on the common base when leaving the factory and can be integrally lifted. Refer to

the confirmation data of relevant products for the weight of Circuit Breaker. During the lifting stage, align the mounting hole on the

base of the Circuit Breaker with the corresponding hole on the top plate of the leg, insert the connecting bolt, and tighten it with flat

washer, spring washer, nut and 140Nm torque wrench. Remove the lifting sling after the Circuit Breaker is in place and tightened.

7.4 Phase-splitting of Circuit Breaker

To facilitate transportation, the phase A and C bushings are shut when the equipment leaves the factory. Before the equipment

is lifted onto the support, the phase A and C bushings are necessary to be opened. When the bushings are opened, a 5T crane shall be

used to keep an upward pull force during phase-splitting, and then the personnel shall assist on standby. The crane shall slowly drop

its hook to make the phase A/C bushing slowly offset outward. After being positioned in place, the bushings shall be threaded with

fixing screw. If the position of phase A/C bushing deviates from the original position, it shall be re-aligned to restore to the factory

position (See Fig. 24).

When the equipment leaves the factory, the position after phase separation will be marked with a marker pen at the edge of the

equipment, the position of the chassis frame A, and the position of the chassis frame B. When the on-site phase separation is offset,

only the mark position needs to be aligned, as shown in Figure 23.

After the equipment is divided into phases, it is necessary to connect and install facilities such as current transformers,

phase-to-phase connection brackets, transmission connecting rods, DES mechanisms, FES mechanisms, density meter assembly,

grounding wire assembly, and lower support rods of edge-to-phase shells of the equipment. After assembly, it is shown in Figure 23.

The above accessories are shipped with the equipment and placed in the spare parts box.

26
Tips

Upon arrival of the goods and before installation, the integrity of the delivered materials shall be checked immediately

according to the Delivery Note and Check List. In case of any damage to the goods is found, the damage scope shall be identified

immediately and the possible causes of damage shall be analyzed. For transportation damage, immediately notify the freight agent

for verification and make preparation for claim.

For HGIS installation, only bolts provided by the Manufacturer can be used. For missing of bolts during installation, a few spare

bolts are provided in the accessory box.

! Warning

 If the mismatched bolts are used, the serious damage to equipment and casualties may occur.

 If the quantity of bolts provided for pressure vessels is not enough, the spare bolts shall be obtained from the

Manufacturer in principle, or the bolts of specified models shall be purchased from the local market after technical

confirmation by the Manufacturer.

 After the bolts are fixed, which shall be checked and confirmed, or otherwise the equipment damage, environmental

pollution or bolt loosening may occur.

 During the HGIS installation, do not touch or step on the HGIS mechanism, lever arm, tie rod, connecting rod,

densitometer, valve seat, cable, aviation plug and other auxiliary facilities. Failure to operate the HGIS in accordance with

the regulations may cause abnormal operation or even damage to the HGIS.

 Before and after operation, commissioning, and operation of HGIS, it is necessary to check that the equipment connected

to each other, such as brackets and support rods, is fully installed, all bolts are fastened in place according to standard

requirements, and all connecting bolts between the bracket and the foundation and body chassis are used correctly and

fastened as required. If the equipment such as the fixed brackets and support rods are not connected as required, and all

bolts are not fastened according to the standard, it may cause abnormal operation of the HGIS equipment or even

damage the equipment.

 When using HGIS in a vehicle-mounted mobile substation, in addition to following the requirements of this manual, the

following regulations must also be followed. If not used in accordance with the regulations, it may cause abnormal

operation of HGIS equipment or even damage to the equipment.

a) The fixed connection between the HGIS equipment foundation and the car board is reliable, and the connection

between the fixed phases is reliable. It is recommended to add shock absorption facilities between the HGIS and

the car board.

b) During the transfer of the vehicle-mounted mobile substation, HGIS equipment SF (6) gas recovery to transport

pressure (0.02~ 0.05MPa).

c) During the transfer of the vehicle-mounted mobile substation, all switch components in HGIS are in the open state,

and the inter-phase transmission connection of each switch is reliable with no risk of misoperation. The circuit

breaker mechanism is in the open state and has no energy storage.

d) During the transfer of the vehicle-mounted mobile substation, the HGIS casing cannot be mechanically hardwired

and fixed.

27
e) During the transfer of the vehicle-mounted mobile substation, personnel should be appointed to supervise the

driving status of the vehicle body. When the road conditions are bad, the speed should be reduced. If the distance

exceeds 200km, equipment inspections should be carried out every 50km during the transfer. If any abnormalities

are found, they should be reported to the relevant departments for timely handling. The HGIS body is equipped

with a collision recorder throughout the transfer process, and the collision acceleration in three directions should

not exceed 3g. The tilt angle of the vehicle-mounted mobile substation transfer should not exceed 15 °.

Personnel should observe the HGIS equipment when passing through height and width-limited places to prevent

obstacles from causing irreparable damage to the equipment.

f) For other requirements, please refer to the "DL/T-2284 Vehicle-mounted Mobile Substation Operation and

If the closing position of the crank arm is not consistent with the position shown in Figure 28, it may cause equipment damage

in serious cases!

7.7 Centralized Control Cabinet and Laying of Low Voltage Cables

Local control Panel (LCP) is the secondary measurement and control collection cabinet of various components on the HGIS, which

can monitor and control HGIS on site. The LCP has the functions of local operation, signal transmission, protection, relay and monitoring

of SF6 system. Generally, each bay is equipped with one LCP. According to different layout methods, the LCP can be divided into

integrated LCP and split-type LCP, as well as intelligent cabinet and ordinary cabinet. See Fig. 29. The specific panel configuration shall

be subject to the requirements of the engineering technical agreement.

1. Panel 2. Cabinet Door 3. Switch ON/OFF Indicator 4. Local Operation Button 5. Analog Bus

Fig. 29 Local Control Panel

The LV cable shall be laid in the cable trough and bound with cable tie. Excessive stretching or bending of cables shall be avoided.

One end of the control cable is fixed and connected to the terminal strip of the centralized control box, and the other end is connected

with a multipole industrial plug with anti-mis-plug, which is respectively inserted into the socket of the corresponding equipment. Care

shall be exercised on leveling of the sealing ring and buckling up the fastening buckle.

Introduction to anti-tripping function: Prevent the continuous closing and switching of the Circuit Breaker (Jumping Phenomenon)

due to failure of the closing contact of the control switch or automatic device to return in time (For example, the operator does not

release the handle, and the closing contact of the automatic device gets stuck.) and just closed on the faulty line and equipment.

Note: Both ends of the secondary winding connecting cable of the Current Transformer are fixed and connected to the terminal

without plug.

7.8 Connecting to Earthing Wire

The earthing wires of CT shell, operating mechanism shell, centralized control box and Circuit Breaker are connected to corresponding

earthing bolts. The field earthing grid leads are usually connected to the specified earthing position under the support with M12 bolts.

33
7.9 SF6 Gas-filling
See Fig. 30

Gas shall be filled through pressure relief valve. Before gas-filling, slightly open the cylinder valve, use appropriate tools to prop up

the joint valve port on the charging pipe for a few seconds, flush the gas-filling pipe, and then close the cylinder valve.

The Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear adopts automatic closed gas-filling joint. Remove the protective cap, insert the

gas-filling pipe connector, and tighten the connecting nut. Then the valve will open, the pressure relief valve can be opened for

gas-filling until the rated gas-filling pressure is attained, then the connector is removed and the protective cap is screwed on.

The SF6 pressure gauge used together with the Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear is equipped with temperature

compensation device, and the reading value has nothing to do with the ambient temperature. However, for the ordinary pressure

gauge on the cylinder side, the reading of the Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear rated gas-filling pressure needs to be corrected

as follows:

37
9 Inspection and Maintenance
Except for the bushing, the working conditions of the Hybrid Compact Gas Insulated Switchgear are basically not affected by the

atmospheric environment, while the composite insulating bushing has stronger pollution resistance, so in practice, the Hybrid Compact

Gas Insulated Switchgear can operate over extended time without maintenance.

9.1 Regular Inspection

(1) After the first year of operation: Retighten all bolted connections.

(2) The equipment shall be checked once a year, and the following items shall be checked without exiting the operation:

 Appearance of bushing and SF6 pressure gauge;

 Sealing gasket of centralized control box door;

 Record the operation times of the Circuit Breaker;

 Heater function;

 If the relay is overheated;

 Visually check the multipole plug, earthing connection and etc, and if the equipment is deformed, corroded and damaged.

(3) Biennial check:

In addition to the above items, for the equipment with few operations, it is recommended to have local and remote operations by

once respectively.

(4) Check every five- year:

 Check the action value of SF6 pressure gauge;

 Measure moisture of SF6 gas in gas chamber;

 Check the lubrication of operating mechanism and sealing of cover;

 Check the mechanical operation;

 Measure the main circuit resistance;

 Determine if the bushing needs to be cleaned according to the environmental conditions;

 Check the multipole plug, earthing connection and etc., and if the equipment is deformed, corroded and damaged.

9.2 Maintenance
The equipment shall be overhauled when it meets one of the following conditions.

(1) After 5, 000 cycles of operations;

(2) The short-circuit breaking times reach the values listed in the following table 13:

Table 13 Short-circuit Breaking Times

Breaking Cycles 4800 320 192 48 32 24 20

Short-circuit Current, kA 4 7.5 11.5 23.5 30 36 40

Note: The above values are selected based on product- type test and years of operation experience.

(3) After 15 years of operation.

See the Following Table 14 for Overhaul Items. Repeat the Cycle in Table 10.2 Below after 15 Years.

38
Tips

Frequent breaking of switchgear has greater contact wear than accidental breaking, which is distinguished here:

Mechanical wear caused by mechanical operation.

Arc erosion caused by disconnection of working current and short-circuit current.

The amount of wear should be estimated so that in most cases, check and maintenance services can be carried out at fixed

intervals. Only when the switchgear is disconnected very frequently, and the operation times or fault current disconnection times

reach or exceed the specified required values, the corresponding maintenance services shall be provided in advance (See the

relevant chapters of the corresponding type test report for the allowable breaking times of the equipment).

9.3 Treatment at the End of Product Life

9.3.1 fundamental requirement

9.3.1.1 When the service life of the Product ends, the user unit shall handle the Product well, pay attention to environmental
protection and gas recovery, and shall not pollute the environment. Meanwhile, we can contact CHINT Electric. We will maximize the

use of Product at the end of its service life to reduce resource waste and pollution.

9.3.1.2 Handle used equipment with care:

a) Following effective environmental improvement programmes, end-of-life products are disposed of in accordance with the following

instructions: End-of-life products contain a large amount of materials and energy, and the degree of recycling is classified according to

the technology and experience of each country;

b) Non-recyclable parts should be sent to a specialized recycling center for destruction

9.3.2 The switchgear has the following components:

9.3.2 .1 Ceramics (For porcelain insulated equipment)
The porcelain part of the circuit breaker may be disposed of after cleaning or used for other purposes, for example, as a filling

material

9.3.2 .2 Metal
Metal materials are sorted by type and surface treatment method and then sent to an approved recycling company for processing.

When the paint is removed from the surface or after other surface treatment, the metal can generally be melted and used in new

products. Many iron, steel and aluminum components are large and easily identifiable, such as frames and mechanical housings.

Chint Electric aims to reduce the use of precious metals and the emission of metals that are harmful to the environment. Recycling

these metals is extremely important.

Precious metals like steel and silver are very expensive and present in very small amounts in the Earth's crust. Copper is mainly

used in current channels, interrupters, electrical contacts and cables. Sometimes the contacts are silvered. Some metals can be

hazardous if disposed of. These metals include, but are not limited to, copper, as well as bell zinc and brocade nickel, which are used as

surface treatment materials

9.3.2 .3 Plastic
Different types of plastic are sorted and then sent to an approved recycling center or company for processing. The energy in

thermoplastics and thermosets can be recovered by burning it in a dedicated facility. Typically, thermoplastics can be melted down and

used again without much impact on quality. Composites can be fractionated and used as fillers for other materials, or disposed of.

The small amount of composite materials found in insulators, pipes and explosion-proof cable joints are thermosetting plastics.

39
Thermoplastics can be found in components such as guide rings, straps, and support rings. Thermoplastics in casings, nozzles, tubes and

rings contain gas fluorine and are not suitable for recycling, however, they can be disposed of without leaking hazardous materials

9.3.2 .4 Oils and greases

Before the equipment is disposed of and sent to an approved recycling center or company, the oil and grease etc. inside the

equipment must be cleaned, and by using gravity, the waste oil can be broken down into oil, water and different pollutants. In many

cases, oil can be reused. Alternatively, it is recovered by burning it in a dedicated facility

9.3.2 .5 Rubber materials

Rubber can be sent to approved recycling centers, either disposed of, or reused. Rubber can be found in the sealing assembly.

9.3.2 .6 Other materials

Sort other materials and send them to approved recycling centers

9.3.2 .7 SF6 gas

Before scrapping the circuit breaker, SF6 gas must be evacuated, SF6 treatment must carefully follow the appropriate procedures

to prevent leakage and pollution of the environment [Note 1], gas can be divided into several solutions according to the situation:

* After purification treatment, it can be reused for co-other equipment.

* Sent to the production plant for purification.

* Send to waste disposal center for destruction.

When the circuit breaker is filled with mixed gas, SF in the treatment process. The gas should be separated from the mixture first,

and the gas mixture sent for destruction does not need to be separated.

The insulating and extinguishing SF6 gas should be collected by appropriate equipment, and can be used again after being

re-processed and tested.

Under the action of electric arc, decomposition products of gas and particulate dust are formed. The decomposition of SF6 is toxic

and may cause irritation of the skin, eyes and respiratory mucosa during contact and inhalation, resulting in nausea, dizziness and

pulmonary edema. Personnel should avoid direct contact with SF6 gas containing the decomposition. When the space smells

uncomfortable and harsh odor, personnel should evacuate to a safe area in time and open ventilation facilities.

Note 1: SF6 gas at high concentrations can cause difficulty breathing, wheezing, blue skin and mucous membranes, and general

convulsions. After inhaling a mixture of 80% sulfur hexafluoride and 20% oxygen for a few minutes, the human body will experience

numbness in the limbs and even suffocation. The decomposition of sulfur hexafluoride gas under the action of electric arc, such as

sulfur tetrafluoride, sulfur fluoride, sulfur difluoride, thionyl fluoride, sulfur difluoride, thionyl tetrafluoride and hydrofluoric acid, etc.,

they have strong corrosion and toxicity.

! Warning

DO NOT eat, drink, smoke or store food in the room of system or equipment, which containing SF6.

During the overhaul and maintenance of SF6 switchgear, the room must be well-vented (Open the ventilation and exhaust

facilities in the room).

When filling and collecting SF6 gas, safety goggles, gloves and appropriate protective clothing shall be worn to prevent frostbite

caused by gas leakage.

DO NOT stir powdered decomposition products.

Industrial vacuum cleaner with filter shall be used to remove powdered decomposition products. Industrial vacuum cleaner

40
shall meet the specification of dust grade L (Light).

Avoid skin exposure to powdered decomposition products and prevent swallowing or inhaling powdered decomposition

products.

After end of work, wash the respirator, safety goggles, gloves and clothes with water, and flush your whole body with soap and

plenty of water.

D.6 Precautions for handling SF6 gas

D. 6.1 SF6 gas characteristics

a) Sulfur hexafluoride is a colorless and tasteless gas. Its density is 6.07g/l at 20℃ and 1bar, which is five times that of air. The gas is in

liquid state under high pressure, so it is stored and transported in gas tank;

b) At normal ambient temperature, SF6 is chemically and thermally stable, inactive (inert), almost insoluble in water and uninflammable;

c) SF6 has become a desirable insulation and arc extinguishing medium for its high dielectric strength and excellent arc extinguishing

characteristics;

d) If SF6 gas overflows from SF6 equipment, the SF6 gas will not mix with large quantity of indoor air, the gas may settle on the ground

and penetrate into the basement due to its high concentration; Once SF6 is mixed with the surrounding air, the SF6 gas will no longer be

50
separated out;

e) If SF6 is exposed to electric spark and arc, it will cause decomposition until cooled down, and a wide range of recombination will

occur.

D.6.2 Characteristics of SF6 decomposition products

a) SF6 decomposition products have various toxicities. It can react with water vapor in the air and building materials. Therefore, strong

corrosive compounds such as gaseous low hexafluoride, solid metal fluoride and hydrofluoric acid may be generated. They may cause

skin, eye and mucous membrane allergy, and nausea, dizziness and pulmonary edema if inhaled in excessive amount;

b) The adsorbent can absorb most decomposition accompaniment. Even if there is small quantity of gaseous decomposition products,

attention should be paid to their harm. Before the risk of poisoning is present, it should be judged by the unpleasant pungent smell.

D.6.3 Environmental sanitation requirements

SF6 obtained by commercial means is a non-toxic gas, and the SF6 containing impurities used in switchgear will not cause any

health hazard. However, SF6 will displace oxygen. When the concentration of SF6 reaches more than 19% by volume, we need to be

particularly vigilant! Such quantity of concentration can occur in open and non-ventilated GIS rooms, closed basement and lower floor

rooms.

D.6.3.1 The following general work hygiene requirements must be met:

a) Avoid exposure to skin, eyes or clothing with decomposition products, and do not swallow and breathe in the air containing these

substances;

b) Used clothing, materials, filters, respiratory equipment, maintenance tools or vacuum cleaner, switch dust and cleaning liquids in SF6

device must be disposed of to prevent them from releasing dust and water-soluble fluoride;

c) Ensure that the skin, clothing and workplace are free from contamination. If the skin is stained with any dust, it should be washed

with large quantity of water;

d) Thoroughly wash face, neck, arms and hands with plenty of water at the break of working or after the task is completed;

e) Food, beverage, cigarette or stored food is forbidden to be brought into the room with open SF6 device containing dust concentration

switch;

f) NO smoking; FORBIDDEN to use any combustion device.

D.6.3.2 The requirements for all environments in GIS room are as follows:
a) Well ventilation must be provided, and significant ventilation effect must be ensured on the ground floor;

b) It must be ensured that there is no open fire or hot surface near the workplace;

c) Each gas chamber can be opened only after SF6 is recovered and reduced to atmospheric standard;

d) The maintenance equipment used for closed system operation must be used to fill gas into and recover the SF6 unit. After docking

the GIS equipment with SF6 recovery unit, the air tightness of the connection must be checked.

D.6.4 Treatment of SF6 decomposition accompaniment

a) To avoid inhaling irritant and asphyxiating gases, the gas mask shall be used before operation;

b) Do not expose to dust and decomposition products, and wear dust-proof clothes, gloves and goggles;

c) Use a special vacuum cleaner filled with micron filter to clean the dust;

d) Ventilate the room;

e) Wash the decomposition accompaniment and contaminated equipment and clothes with clean water. Neutralize the waste water

with baking soda (NaHCO3) before discharge to make its pH value reach 7~8.

51
D.6.5 Medical measures
In case of asphyxia, the victim shall be immediately carried out of the contaminated area for appropriate treatment at the first

time. At any time, the symptoms of such poisoning and the risk of delayed treatment must be explained to the doctor.

D.6.6 Gas recovery and treatment unit

SF6 treatment equipment shall be able to quickly recover gas and fill gas, and can effectively and safely dispose of waste gas. The

most important thing is to provide personnel protection.

D.6.6.1 Preparation of gas-related work outside the gas chamber:

a) Be familiar with the safety regulations before operation, including the layout of switchgear and air chamber division diagram;

b) SF6 recovery and treatment unit shall be equipped with air storage tank;

c) SF6 volume percentage measuring device;

d) Device for measuring SF6 moisture content;

e) SF6 leakage measuring device;

f) Accurate pressure gauge 0MPa ~ 10MPa;

g) First-aid equipment.

D.6.6.2 Work in an open environment without presence of SF6 decomposition products

a) In addition to the equipment recommended in D.6.6.1, the following equipment is also recommended for work in an open air

chamber;

b) Electric suction blower with hose for forced ventilation;

c) Cotton gloves;

d) Oversleeves;

e) Oxygen measuring instrument.

D.6.6.3 Work in an open environment with presence of SF6 decomposition products

a) Full vision safety glasses;

b) Half-mask breathing equipment with combined filter cartridge;

c) Cotton gloves with protective cover (Rubber);

d) Double-layer plastic waste bags and plastic containers for placing used cleaning materials;

e) Cleaning mops made of lint-free cloth, dustpans and brushes;

f) High-power vacuum cleaner with fine dust filter adsorbing 0.3um particles;

g) Front filter unit with connector for maintenance unit;

h) Decomposition products measuring device with corresponding number of test tubes.

D.7 Air Replenishment

D.7.1 Small quantity of gas can be directly added to the air chamber during equipment operation. If accurate pressure indication is

required, an accurate pressure gauge shall be used during gas-filling. Other pressure readings can be read through the density relay. The

following contents need to be cautioned during air replenishment:

a) Carefully dry the gas-filling equipment to prevent moisture from entering the air chamber;

b) If the charging gas pressure to the air chamber is too high, overpressure alarm or rupture of explosion-proof membrane is susceptible,

so all necessary preventive measures must be taken to avoid such situation; 

c) The gas should be filled at a slower speed to avoid inhaling dust or freezing the gas-filling valve.

52
D.7.2 Interpretation of density relay readings:
a) The effect of temperature compensation is accurate only at the minimum operating pressure. If the pressure is other than the

minimum operating pressure, the pointer is unable to accurately point to the corrected pressure value at 20℃;

b) If the relative pressure standard gauge is used for gas-filling, the relative pressure shall be calculated and the ambient temperature

and atmospheric pressure at that time shall be recorded.

D.8 Gas-filling
D.8.1 Before gas-filling:
a) Put in adsorbent;

b) Confirm if the valve is in the ON-OFF state;

c) Vacuum pumping;

d) Fill with SF6 gas.

D.8.2 After gas-filling:

a) Check the air tightness of all air chambers assembled on site;

b) Check if the density relay functions normally;

c) Measure and record the moisture content in the air chamber.

D.8.3 Complete gas-filling operation

D.8.3.1 Put in dry adsorbent. The matters requiring attention are as follows:
a) The residence time of adsorbent in the atmosphere shall not exceed 1 hour.

b) Close the air chamber as soon as possible after installation and vacuumizing. If the gas-filling operation is delayed, fill the air chamber

with SF6 gas at pressure of higher than the atmospheric pressure before disconnecting the vacuum pump.

c) Ensure that condensation does not occur before opening the air chamber or when allowing air to enter. When the temperature of air

chamber is lower than or equal to the ambient temperature, internal condensation is likely to occur.

D. 8.3.2 Start vacuumizing and leak detection, and fill in with SF6 gas to rated pressure
D. 8.3.3 Measure and record the moisture content
D.9 Leakage Rate Measurement
D.9.1 There are many methods for leak detection of GIS products. while CHINT Electric adopts the partial binding method.
D.9.2 Partial binding method
D. 9.2.1 Binding methods at several common parts for partial binding and leak detection:
a) Flange connection part of tank body: Wrap the flange connection part of tank body with plastic cloth, firmly seal the middle opening

with adhesive tape, and firmly and tightly bind both ends to the tank body with adhesive tape;

b) Crank arm box of isolating switch, earthing switch and Circuit Breaker: Wrap the whole crank arm box with a plastic bag sealed at one

end, and bind the open end firmly and tightly on the tank body with adhesive tape;

c) End cover plate: Wrap the whole crank arm box with a plastic bag sealed at one end, and bind the open end firmly and tightly to

the tank with adhesive tape.

D.9.2.2 Matters requiring attention for partial binding and leak detection:
a) The plastic cover (Bag) may not have any hole;

b) The volume of plastic cover (bag) is appropriate, about 2L to 5L;

c) All leak detection places shall be covered without any omission;

53
d) The Inspector shall be earnest and responsible, and the testing equipment and instruments must be sound and reliable.

D.9.2.3 Measurement procedure

a) Vacuum the product, and then bind all connecting flange surfaces and shaft seals one by one;

b) Test before standing;

c) Standing of test object;

d) Test after standing.

D.9.2.4 Judgment of qualified calculation

Generally, when the SF6 concentration in the plastic cloth space is ≤100 PPM, the air tightness test of the test object is judged as passed,

otherwise the test is failed.
