CHANGES / ENHANCEMENTS:
Multi-Drop Communications
The most significant change in this release is the addition of Multi-Drop Communications
for the DCSS. This will now allow the 335M to communicate directly to a DISS subsystem
or the new Closed Loop Door Operator (CLDO). When Multi-Drop communication is
activated the embedded door control in the MLB software is disabled.
The integrity of the 3 Door Zone sensors, LU, LD and DZ, are now checked as the car
arrives at a floor. If any of the sensors is read out of sequence (for example, we are going
up and see DZ before LU), a shutdown results once the car stops at the floor. Three new
Error Log Events have been created for this fault:
Loss of SPT
There have been occurrences of the reader tape coming loose from the tape guides on
some 335M sites. When this occurs the car continues its current run and then does a
normal approach to its target landing. However, after it stops, it then begins to “hunt” for a
Door Zone signal. This hunting can sometimes cause the car to take off again at full
speed or recover speed in search of a Door Zone magnet. The result is that the car ends
up on the final limit at one of the terminals.
With this software release we can determine if the entire SPT has been lost. By tracking
our distance traveled and comparing that against how far away the next Door Zone
magnet is, we can make a logical assumption about the status of the SPT. If we have
traveled more than far enough to have seen the next magnet but NONE of the 3 door
zone sensors has turned on, we reason that the tape has come out of the guides, or some

other catastrophic failure of the SPT has occurred. The car makes its normal stop and
then we shut it down where it sits with an error #2110 SPT Failure.
In most cases the car will be very close to floor level of its target floor (assuming normal
rope slippage). An entrapment will result because there is no Door Zone signal, but there
is a better chance of releasing the passengers manually than previously with the same
fault.
NOTE: Of course, the tape can only come out of the guides if the guides have
experienced extreme wear. Even on the best of sites, guide renewal is a maintenance
item and should not be neglected.
This feature can be disabled by setting the new parameter Disable SPT Chck to a ‘1’.
This should only be done if nuisance shutdowns are occurring, and only until the cause of
the shutdowns is corrected.
A timing problem in previous versions of MLB software could cause erroneous Correction
runs to occur by declaring the position invalid as the car arrived at the bottom landing.
This has been corrected with this release.
If, after a power failure, the OCSS failed to establish communication with the MCSS, if the
doors were open on Phase I or II they would close. With this release, the door state
information is now retained in NVRAM. The MLB will send “De-Energize” until the Startup
Delay has expired, then, if there is no communication from the OCSS and the doors were
fully open at the time of the power loss, they will be held open. If the doors were not fully
open, the MLB will send a “Close 6” (Nudge closed w/DOB active) and the doors will be
closed.
A car on Phase I recall above the counterweight with a subsequent EQO trip would
sometimes continue down at full speed to the Phase I recall landing passing the
counterweight. Additionally, if the car did stop immediately in flight in response to the
EQO trip, it would sometimes recover towards the counterweight instead of away from it.
Both of these problems have been corrected with this release. The car will now ALWAYS
recover away from the counterweight.

The Access origination floor is the floor the car is parked at when the keyswitch in the car
is turned to the Inspection position (ACCESS Mode). The car can then be run away from
the floor on access until it reaches its access zone limit. If the keyswitch were to be
toggled off and then back on at this position, the software would then redefine the access
origination floor as the landing the platform of the car is closest to, which now is NOT the
landing it started from. Now the car is outside of the Access zone and cannot be
recovered using the keyswitch. The chances of this happening are remote because
normally there would not be anyone in the car to toggle the keyswitch. However, if the
power momentarily went off and then came back on the same scenario would occur. This
has been corrected with this release, The car will now remember its access origination
floor through a power failure.
Be aware though that if the car is moving on access (or any other mode) when the power
is lost, the position is declared invalid and the car can no longer be run on access until it is
brought back to a floor on inspection operation.
An unused task controlling a 4 character display for the LMCSS products was carried over
into the MLB software. Since the MLB does not have a display this task was using up
valuable CPU time unnecessarily. This task has been removed
In addition, a new Service Tool function (Module, 2, 4, 5) has been added to monitor CPU
usage.
For Door Types 0, 20 and 21, a hardware Safe-to-Open signal is provided for both the
front door and the rear (alternate) door. On the Service Tool (Module, 2, 1, 4) these
signals can be seen as “fso1”, “fso2”, “aso1”, and “aso2”. An uppercase display of the
signal means the output from the MLB is turned on.
These signals are only displayed when one of these 3 door types is selected since for all
other door types the embedded MLB door control software is used and the Safe-to-Open
signal is an internal software signal only. Likewise, when one of these 3 door types is
selected, the standard Door Outputs do1, do2, etc. are not displayed.

The Printer Log option which allows a serial printer or PC to be connected to the MLB to
record system events is not available when using Door Types 0, 20, or 21 since the
hardware port used for the printer is the same one used to communicate to the DCSS.
The Printer Log Option parameter can be modified but it will have no effect as long as the
door type is one of the three “off board” types. This was done to eliminate device
contention for the port which would result in misoperation of the doors.
The detection of uncontrolled motion has been inhibited on Top of Car Inspection
operation. This was done in order to prevent inadvertently trapping an inspector on the
car top if a door lock is opened while in flight as the car passes through a door zone on
inspection.
Additional Information
Be sure to clear the MLB Error Log after installing the software and updating any
parameters. This can be accomplished by pressing MODULE, 2,2,2 and then SHIFT-5
(SEL OUT).
Controllers shipped after September 25, 1997 will be provided with the AAA30145AAD
version of software.
If upgrading an existing controller to this software, mark the TIP tag on the controller door
with this TIP number and the installation date.
